Which processor do you think runs hotter AMD or Intel. I have heard from many people that amds run hotter and I have heard from many people that Intels run hotter.

Intels run much hotter, my P4 and Celeron D (3Ghz and 2.4Ghz) run around 140F idle, and 150F+ load, where my amd sempron and my friends athlon 64 run around 100F Idle, and 110F load.

Dont know who told u that amd's run hotter, but they dont.

AMDs used to run alot hotter. Now they have changed that and they run much cooler then before. Mine runs at about 37 to 40 degrees celcius.

it depends on what cores they are.

yes.. if you take the AMD thunderbird core.. if im not mistaken,. its even hotter as a Prescot ( cant remember the version)
at least my 1333 was.

any current desktop AMD cpu will run cooler then any desktop intel cpu. The sempron, athlon xp, athlon 64, or the AMD X2 will run cooler then a celeron, pentium 4, or Pentium D.

True my dad's amd athlon xp runs a little cooler than my p4. Do you think it's cause the amds are built better?

its mainly because they can perform better while operating at lower clock speeds, and the lower the clock speed, the less power consumption, which means less heat is created, which makes them cooler.

Intel's.... Prescott's are b*tches to keep cool.
only on the s478. And any aftermarket cooler will keep that under control

Well the new intel 630's run alot cooler at 29C idle with stock cooling.
Pretty sure most users will see temps above that.

and the lower the clock speed, the less power consumption,
Those two things are not directly linked

As a note the P-M is probably the coolest mainstream cpu at stock, in fact even at OC

I know, i was just making 2 points about them having a lower clock speed and using less power, sorry for the confusion.

Which is why i specifically said desktop cpu's, and left the Pentium M out of the list.

My amd athlon 64 3000 run's at 25 degrees celcius at full load, and it's overclocked by 600mhz.I think it's the core, venice, which is known for it's low temperature operation :D

My comment was as i said just a note, it wasnt aimed as a rebuke to your comments geoff

by what method are you measuring that, quite frankly i dont believe it to be accurate

I use pc wizard. The thing is I also didn't think it was accurate,so I tested it by playing doom 3 for a couple of hour's,then I restarted it and quickly checked the bios temp reading's and they said the same thing,25
