Hi,

First time poster - sorry if it's in the wrong section.

Fairly simple question (although one that is entirely subjective and therefore not simple at all.)

I'm in the market for a new laptop. Old one was nothing special (HP G62, i5, 3GB RAM) and has begun slowing down.

I'm open to looking at a high-end replacement as my work means I'm on my laptop 15 hours a day and use it for everything.

I am very tempted by the new Macbook Pro 15" Retina, but would like some advice as to whether a) it's worth the price b) what the Windows alternatives may be and c) What else there may be out there for my needs.

As well as work I use some huge audio editing software, and would like a machine that works pretty quick - so the MBP, coming with quad core i7 and 8GB RAM will do nicely.

Thanks in advance.

The only perk to a Mac is the retina display. There are Windows PC which will destroy a Mac in performance.

If you are wanting to become a Unix user then I would honestly recommend Ubuntu Linux, I have owned two Macbook Pro's in the last three years for nothing longer then a week and OS X was considerably too slow and buggy for me. SO I would personally go PC hardware with Ubuntu Linux.

This notebook has a quad core i7, 8 GB ram, 1 TB HDD, radeon graphics, 1920x1080(TOUCH) screen, 7 1/2 hours battery and all aluminum for $1,199. This would run Windows great and if I wanted something Unix Like then throw some Ubuntu on this.

I will say that I was comparing several laptops and I decided on the 13" MBP Retina. I was looking for a laptop that was reliable, great screen, excellent battery life, thin and light, and one that looked good and wasn't all cheap plastic. I'm completely satisfied with my MBP.

I'm gonna vote Macbook for reliability and battery life :good: Granted I also support PC's and always recommend the Dell Latitude and HP EliteBook, and Lenovo ThinkPad lines :good:
