Latitude D520 Graphics

Hey as I install games i learn that I dont have something that I need for almost every game
Is there a way to fix this?

I think something concerning my graphics card
I have direct draw and it works, but for some reason I dont have direct 3D

DirectX? Yeah, you will need that. ;)

Usually the game will also install the latest version of DirectX along with it. In the case it doesn't, you can grab it from here.

Well like, I have installed all the latest directX drivers, yet it still doesnt work!
At least Im pretty sure I have

Well, if that's the case, you probably are having trouble playing/installing the game if it requires more than a lowly Intel IGP. You only have a 900 series GMA after all. This isn't exactly a 3D "accelerator" in the modern sense.

So the only solution would be to upgrade my graphics card which is difficult if not impossible on a laptop?
wheeeee

Thank you for the help though

Sounds like you need a newer/more capable laptop, mate... :(

I'm sorry I couldn't do more for you. Were the games not running because they couldn't find a proper graphics card? Most 3D games are not compatible with or even worth running on an integrated graphics card...especially an Intel one. That 945GM chip will not support shaders for one.

Ahhh, that realllyyyyy sucks, haha, i cant afford another laptop at the moment!

I think so, I think they require direct3D, which I guess my graphics card doesn't support

Its cools, you did you best, and for that I thank you!

No, your graphics card will support Direct3D...just badly....very, very badly.

Glad to help for what it's worth. :):good:

What games in particular are you trying to run? Remember, not many current 3D games will support the Intel GMA chipsets.

Mostly garrys mod, and I have tried nero (a game by university of texas) and star wars:empire at war, none have worked, flight sim 2004, however, has, but it windows mode

I should also mention that the Intel 945 chipset does not support hardware Transform and Lighting. Many games check for that capability in the graphics processor or even require it to be done by the graphics processor. Empire at War and Source engine games are some of those that do.

That is a very limited graphics processor. It does not have the capability to run many 3D games. Some very simple ones may run just fine, but then you are looking back to games from the mid-late 90's as well.

Ahh so older games will work you say?
Is there a way to turn of the transform and lighting in the game so its not required by the game to run?
Or like, something of that nature?
My parents got me this computer as a gaming computer, but they know nothing about computers and probably thought "integrated graphics cards" where state of the art, lol

Some will, yes. All will function poorly compared to a dedicated graphics chipset. Again, the Intel integrated graphics chips are the bottom of the barrel when it comes to performance and features.

No, there is no way to turn off hardware transform and lighting if the game requires it.

For a gaming computer (in the current "modern" sense), you really need a dedicated graphics chipset by ATI or nVidia. Any graphics processor out on the market currently made by Intel will not be enough for most games, and barely adequate for some. There is a reason why most games say they do not support integrated graphics. Also, all mobile versions of dedicated GPUs are inferior in performance to their desktop counterparts.

Also be warned, ATI and nVidia make integrated graphics chipsets. If anywhere in the specifications on the GPU it lists "shared memory" instead of "dedicated memory/VRAM", that is an integrated chipset.

Ahh ok so I am basically screwed with this computer as far as gaming goes
lol, well, aright, once again, thats for all the great help!

I am neither, I think next summer I go to flight academy, if I got the timing right

Do you know of the Civil Air Patrol? I am a cadet, so I will probably be ground crew

Yeah, that's why I was wondering if you were a pilot: C.A.P. Cadet. :)

I know of the Civil Air Patrol, but I have not had anything to do with it for quite some time. Are you looking at any particular specialty?
