Should I buy LCD or CRT?

My 21" NEC MultiSync crt monitor just broke. I need some help in deciding what monitor to buy. I can not decide if i should go with another crt, or an lcd. I need the monitor to be good with gaming plus have clear font and vivid colors. I also do not want to spend a lot of money. Other than the response time what specs should i look at when buying a monitor? I know crt's and lcd's each have their advantages and disadvantages.

contrast ratio, pixel pitch, brightness, etc.

what's your budget?
 
Many old time gamers would chill at the thought of going lcd. They average a longer life span with upto some 50,000 hours compared to around 17,000 seen with crts. They certainly free up desk space. But you would probably have to get used to a higher screen resolution. And yes most go over $300- if you want a 19" upto 24" viewable model.

I would like to spend under $200 but i am willing to go alittle over. I am looking for a monitor that has at least a 19" screen and is good for gaming. I would like to go to an lcd however, i am not conviced in their quality. Is there going to be a big noticable difference in quality between a relativly cheap crt and a relativly cheap lcd.

What would be a good responce time, contrast ratio, resolution etc... for gaming, clear picture and fonts.

Help, Still More Questions

I was able to find 19" lcd monitors on sites such as newegg and tigerdirect for as low as $169.99 with rebates. However my main concern and question is, how does the gaming and overall quality of an lcd compare to a crt? What are the main differences and how noticable are they? Is the picture and gaming experience different between the two? What other major differnces are there? If anyone can answer these questions I would appreciate it.

I'm also looking at spending no more than $200 if possible. Besides the screeen size, what else should we use to compare? Looking at them at newegg, they talk about things that I have no idea what they mean. Example of one below. What's 300 cd/m2? TFT LCD? 12ms? Should the max resolution be higher? What's pixel pitch?

The response time (12ms in your case) should be as low of a number as possible. The higher the number the more likely ghosting will occur. So in regard to response time the lower the number the better. Unfortunatly i do not know the answers to your other questions. I am trying to decide on monitor myself, and learning as i go through the process.

If anyone could answer my previous questions that would be great.

You are welcome there. When I looked over some of those price tags you couldn't imagine the expression! That last link was ridiculous on costs. When you have a model picked out do some prce shopping and grab a good deal. A rebate offer has been seen on several at different vendors lately.
 
Help choosing what monitor

Unless anyone can convnce me otherwise I have decided on buying an LCD monitor over a CRT. I want a decent monitor without paying alot of money. I will be using my monitor for gaming as well as other normal use. I would like the color and text to be clear and vivid as well as good for gaming. I think I have narrowed it down to two monitors.

Both of the monitors have preety much the same specs except for response time. Is the differnce in response time worth spending more money?

If anyone could tell me their opinion on which of the two will be better for gaming and eveyday use i would appreciate it.
Or if you have any other suggestions on what monitor to get (keep in mind I do not want to spend much more than $200.00.

Thank You everyone

It does not make sence to me that mwave and newegg would have different specs than tigerdirect on the same monitor. I noticed that on newegg and mwave the model number of the monitor is F-419(R12) and on tigerdirect it is simple F-419. Is it possible that tigerdirect has a differnet monitor than mwave and newegg? Or did one site screw up their specs?

Personally I would look at several makes and models even walk around in a some entertainment section in a store like Target, Circuit City, Walmart even to see a display model running right up close. Then shop around for what looks best and which model or brand comes the closest with the specs you are after. Recently I dumped a Proview 15" for a BENQ 17" to get ticked due to the need for a driver. A friend grabbed a bargain on a Proview 19" with a silver casing and games all the time.

Tiger probably goofed when putting the specs up there. They are usually good at putting the accurate info up. I often cross check what they have when looking for a specific item. That was kind of rare for them. The AG Neoovo F-419(R12) offers the lower power consumption while the Acer offers the faster response time according to the specs seen. Of the two you would want that edge for gaming. But I would still advise looking over some other makes and models to see if you do better for about the same price range.

I will go to some computer store and look at monitors up close.
I have been trying to find the right monitor for weeks now and its beginning to get frustrating. It is hard to find just the right one. I want it to be good with gaming and other every day uses. I also do not want to spend much over $200.

If anyone knows of some good inexpensive monitors or has any more suggestions I could use the help.
