Help in purchasing a new monitor.

I was looking for a 19" monitor. The acer monitor from mwave looks good. Most of the specs are pretty similar to the one I was looking at previously and it costs less. My only concern is that the one I was originally looking at has a response time of 4ms and the acer you suggested has a response time of 8ms. Will this make a big differnce in preformance? Is acer a more respected and common company than AG Neovo? Which of the two do you suggest?

At present I have been running Half Life 2, Counter strike, Lost Coast(partial), Metal of Honor, and a few others with a BENQ 17" with 12ms. The thing that is most noticible on this model was a slight blurring seen at times with text. The gaming sees frame slow downs at times for other reasons. But the lower response time would improve things like seen in gaming. With this model not seen on many others is a need for a driver.

The 19" BENQ with only a 2ms certainly looks inviting here. With a large number of brands out Acer was seen more often then AG. Reading reviews on each brand would show different opions on performance from different sources. I personally don't have info on which one brand is better there. Sorry about that one. The AG had a lower power consumption then the Acer as mentioned earlier. That could also make a slight difference depending on how intense the graphics are when displayed. I do like the lower 8ms seen on the Acer. But I'm now taking a good look at the BENQ's 2ms! Too often I see 8-12ms as a rule. Your choice now.
 
LCD has dropped in prices a lot.
i guess it depends on what you need it for. LCD's can be maneuvered easily, and save a lot of deskspace. i'd say the biggest drawback of LCD's is that they are much more finite than CRT's, they last like 5 years tops... depending on how often you use it.
 
From the info I have been running into lcds have upto some 50,000 hours of life span depending on usage compared to some 17,000 averaged on crts. The main item of general concern with lcds is the delicate face covering that can be damaged by pressing your fingers too hard into the viewing area. Some brand lcds however have a flat more rigid surface. But that can be more easily scratched. You have to use a soft cloth to clean with a mild type of cleaning solution to avoid clouding as well.

The acer from newegg and the DCLCD from newegg are pretty similar (except for power consumption and viewing angle. What is viewing angle and which of the two monitors has a better one??). However the AG Neovo from Tiger has a lower response time (but it costs more).

I do not know which of the three companies are more respected but I have heard of acer more than the other two.

If anyone has any suggestions about which of the three they think is best that would be helpful.

i myself would suggest a CRT just because they are better for gaming, and usually cheaper. The LCD life span is attractive tho. I wanted to get a few LCD's but I keep aquiring 17inch CRT monitors that do the job rather nicely. Plus, i myself havent seen an LCD put out the picture quality i seem to get with a CRT. I have dual flat screen CRT's and i love it, id suggest grabbing one of those.
 
I also have had only CRT's in the past. I like the durability and picture quality of them as well. I am skeptical about the quality and durability of LCD's. The only reason I want an LCD is because it will end up costing me a lot less. To ship a 19" CRT from mwave, TigerDirect etc. costs between $60.00 and $80.00, shipping an 19" LCD costs about $10.00 - $20.00. If it wasent for high shipping costs I would probably consider a CRT.

For the $50- or so more this is the one that stands out for gaming with the lowest response time of any seen with 2ms. Viewing angle refers to how much luster is lost and blurriness you see moving around to the side of a crt compared to that of an lcd where the screen maintains it's contrast as well as clarity. http://www.mwave.com/mwave/viewspec.hmx?scriteria=3876308

The AG look as well as the other two with the lower power consuption and lower response time to favor there. Have a look at the BenQ anyway.

There is a good possiblility that I am insane, but I am now having second thoughts about what monitor to get. I am now thinking instead of trying to find a cheap monitor made by a less known and respected company I will spend a little extra money for a good name brand monitor.
From past experiences i know that with whatever I buy i will get what i pay for. I want this monitor to last for a long time and to be of good quality.

One monitor I am looking at which is about $100 dollars over what i wanted to spend is this NEC. It has far better specs than any other monitor I previously looked at.
It has a very low response time of 4ms and brightness of 400cd/m2. It also has a low power consumption. Plus NEC is a well known and respected company. Plus it got good reviews by gamers.

I am liking this monitor even though it is a bit pricey.

Real low power consumption seen there. But also an unknown as far as brand name. But often a name brand will be sold under a substitute. Radio Shack sells Koss head phones with their name on it. The response time is average at 8ms.
 
I am going to continue to shop around for a good quality brand name model that are not ridiculously expensive. I will continue to let you know when I find monitors I am interested in. At this stage I am pretty comfortable in knowing whats good are bad but your opinions are very helpful in my decision.

As you can see by just the few links here there are a large variety of opions on the various makes and models being sold. Everyone has an opinion. One link above(PC World) has a guide for tips and comparisons when shopping for the make and model that best suits your needs. Sony, Apple, Viewsonic, HP, Samsung, KDS(not preferred here), Hitachi, IBM, and many others as well as NEC and Dell have their day in the reviews. Figure your main uses, price range, specifications, appearance along with viewing size, and availabilty among vendors as well who sells what for less.
