eMachines T2825 Power Button/Supply/Fuse (?) Trouble

Hi,

My first post here.

The front power button, which lights up blue when the computer is On, won't turn the computer on or off. The Blue light is Not on. Pushing the power button causes nothing new to happen.

A couple of small lights on the front of the computer are on continually- like the little light on the DVD player, and a LITTLE light about an inch below the power button above some tiny icon that looks like a can, and the fan is running, but the computer doesn't seem to be turning on or off... I don't recall if these lights are usually lit when the computer is Off, buy I doubt it.

I've tried unplugging, holding the button in for 10 seconds, tapping on it etc. The fan and vent are clean

The monitor is Blank, but the light that shows the monitor is on, is blinking.
JUST before this happened, without me doing anything, the screen read, "Windows is shutting down"- then the above condition followed.

Is this a power button issue? is there a fuse somewhere?

If there is a fuse, where is it located?... do I have to open the case?

Thanks,
Bill

could simply be that the button you are pressing on the front of the case is not actually pushing on the power button behind the front face of the tower. I recommend taking the face off the computer and actually pushing the power button with your finger(should be a small button when u take the front of the computer off).

Are you using integrated video or do you have a card in there?

it sounds like a motherboard problem to me may have shorted itself out or something.
which usually means not fixable, you'll ahve to buy a new one if it turns out to be that. Lets here from tohers, see what they have to say first.

Everything in the computer is off the shelf from Best Buy- nothing installed by me.
Yes but the machine has multiple configurations ... both onboard and not .. regardless ... open up the case, have a look ... if the plug that the monitor is a card then remove the card and put it back in :)

Thanks for the replies.

OK. I popped off the front cover and pressed the little switch- nothing. So I snipped the wires from the switch, twisted then together and plugged the machine in. nothing.

As before, just plugged in the fan is running and a few little diodes- but nothing new happens when you turn the machine on.

I attahed a different monitor and it reads "No Signal".

Now, seeing that the computer doesn't come to life (no noises inside when it is turned on), and I know it isn't the switch, are there a couple of other possibilities or just a cooked mother board? Can I buy the correct mother board? If so how much? If I buy it and put it in and it still doesn't work- what then.

Thanks.... As you can see I'm new to all this.

Bill
