I'm curious
So do all PC drivers own Racing Wheels - or do you guys just tap away at the keyboard?

I use an xbox 360 controller. Kind of a middle of the road approach :P It is cheaper than a wheel but way better than keyboard. Also can be used for other game genres (but I mostly use it for racing).

Haven't played NFS, but I have Dirt 2 and it sucks. The trucks are fun, but the cars are a pain in the ass to drive, at least on a keyboard.

No way, I found it quite easy to drive (and win) with the keyboard, just the buggy's annoyed me because they are buggy's.

Its easy.. Dirt 2 all the way.
Let me put it this way, the Rally cars in Dirt 2 on a gravel track seem to have better grip than a touringcar in NFS. (go figure)

I'm curious

For those who do the driving game thing - how many people own Racing wheels - and how many just use the Arrows on keyboard?

I almost bought a wheel around Christmas time - but decided I didnt' want to spend the money on one. I've got my eye on a Logitech MOMO - and Thrustmaster F430 as potential future purchases - but not really sure if I'll ever get around to it.

I've got one of these:

Great wheel for the price

Great wheel for the price

I've only used one wheel ( display model at Fry's Electononics ). It happened to be that Wheel.

It felt great in the hand - but the wheel was broken - no matter what direction you turned it - the car steered right into the wall

I was majorly disappointed - I was really excited to try and play a Racing game with a wheel in hand.

Ive never had any problems playing NFS Shift on my 4890... Works mint no lag and max everything???

I voted NFS since I havent played Dirt 2... Although after reading this I might just go out and get it...

Does Dirt 2 have the cockpit view like Shift? Cause without that feature Shift wouldnt be as cool as it is.

Try out the Demo I linked to earlier in this thread.

you can choose from a bunch of viewing options - including DX11 3 monitors with expanded view if you have a 5850 :good:

I've not played Shift - but there is a cockpit mode - as well as a couple others you can choose from. Changing viewing angle while driving is a simple click of key.

NFS - SHIFT is pretty sweet, but I haven't played DiRT2 yet so...I'm sure they will both be great. If you don't like extensive detailing your car (as in you do it yourself) then I know NFS is not for you.

Use to have a Logitech G25

Let me say this: You really dont get the full experience of racing games until you get a Steering Wheel with a Shifter. Dont get a steering wheel without one.

Voted NFSS but I have not tried Dirt yet, i will get it. I have the TM wheel from Fry $49 and I love it, way nicer than my keyboard.

This one??

How long have you had it. My biggest concern with a wheel is durability - how long do they last?

Thanks.

I don't think you should vote if you haven't played both of the games. :P

Most def.

After playing both though its a tough choice. Shift was fun but it has soo many problems such as performance and crashes. It just frustates me.

Dirt 2 on the other hand.. well for some reason I couldnt get into it. But the game is better optimzed and structured. I also realized that its pretty much like Grid only its rally racing and I think thats why i couldnt get into it.

I guess for this poll though I would vote Shift but if it was an option I would rather vote Grid over Shift.
24 hours of le mans & prototypes ftw!

Shift for me, fairly unusual physics but I prefer road racing after the FIA neglected the WRC meaning the top level of rallying is now as interesting as a grey wall (Not that any other level is any better). GRID is actually woefully unrealistic on the prototype front. One part being that Codemasters stuck another gear on the R10, it's famously only a 5-speed...
