Yeah if you had quite an high end card then sticking a fan less card in it isn't going to help at all.
Fanless heatsinks are great for people who have lower end cards that don't require so much cooling.

As for my worst experience,when i first got one of my first pcs.
The psu had one of those Voltage switches on the back,well me stupidly not looking when i got home and put it in that someone had switched it to another voltage and of course it was not the right one....bang goes that psu
didnt take anything else with it though.
Tough break man.. lol. I'll bet you were pretty upset
