Xbox 360 Help

A little while ago, my Xbox 360 was on but it was playing the Halo 3 idle movie, it had been idle for a few hours. I was talking on the phone, and all of a sudden I start hearing crunching noises.. So I look at the Xbox, and its coming from there. So I quickly go over and turn it off, and let it be for a half hour. I turn it on to see if the problem persists, and it does. So 20 Minutes later, I turn it on, and the tray keeps opening, so I take the disc out, and it wont close. It closes, but pops right back out. I turn the console off, it pops out and wont automatically close, so I have to push it down for it to be closed when the console is off. My Xbox was and has been in the Horizontal Position.

I've had the Console since December of 06, and its the Core Version.

So, what do I do?

Thanks.

Most likely your going to be SOL. You can give Microsoft a call and see if they have any suggestions for you but they will probably advise you to purchase the retailers extended warranty the next time around.

When I worked at Meijer, we had people return a couple Xboxes that were doing the exact same thing. Luckily (as I recall) both were still under the microsoft warranty so we took them back.

This sounds stupid but it is very likely to work, box it up and take it back to Wal-mart and tell them you dont have your receipt, but you need to exchange it. The one here in town never bothered to call and verify them and takes them back anyway. They also took back two of my Ipods that botched on me years ago. Besides that Im out of ideas.

Weren't all Xboxes put under a new 3 year warranty?

And I bought mine from a BestBuy, does it matter?

And I am not to keen on sending it to Microsoft, because they can take their sweet time sending it back.

Yep, I think it was just a year though. Give microsoft a call, cant hurt anything. And woopty do, you lose your xbox for a month, go play outside for once :P. Any of the online tricks wont work, and if you send it to some 3rd party, you lose the warranty and when you get a RROD you're boned!

Good luck getting it fixed though :).

Yeah, I'll probably just take it to the guy who fixed my Original Xbox a few Summers ago. It's just Battlefield: Bad Company comes out this Month, I have a big 100 Man LAN I am helping at, hosting the Console Section, and my August LAN, so..

i had to send my 360 in for rrod and within 10 days i had a brand new one at my house and a free month of xbl... they have really gotten faster they ship them all overnight now and they are fast as hell with returns.. Call them it cant hurt most times they will feel bad and replace it for you i have a friend who has had similar problems to a 2 year old 360 no extended warranty and microsoft replaced it..

You could always just call MS and say you got the RROD. The whole RMA process took two weeks for me, and I even had my box to ship it back to MS for 5 days before I sent it off.

it doesnt work like that, they check the consoles for RROD. go to www.360mods.net and post in the forums there, but my buddy is the one that owns that site, and he said dvd is junk u will need a new one, and the crunchin he said is prolly ur gpu goin out

I'm sure MS takes the time to check thousands of consoles every day.

They wouldn't have any idea anyway because a lot of them don't get the RROD everytime they power on. They may just freeze and when they reboot it, it red rings....

well lets put it this way most broken ones get refurbed, that serial number attached to the one u send also has ur name and everything, if its not rrod, then it will be considered fraud.. but i believe there is a way u can induce rrod, but personally id go to 360mods.net, the forums there u can get alot of help, my buddy owns the site, and can get on the irc channel on the site also, but i had him read this and he said dvd drive is bad, and the noise sounds like it may be the gpu.

hey unless u have the money to spend it may be cheaper for u to fix it urself, dvd drives can be bought off ebay, and u can get tutorials on how to change it urself. but of course that is totally up to u

Well if its just a DVD drive problem, then I'll see what it costs to get it done professionally and I'll base it off that. But if its more then the Drive, I'll look into it. Cause how would I fix that Crunching noise?

Thanks.
