I have windows vista home premium 32 bit on my home pc. For weeks my windows update has been telling me to install windows vista service pack 2, but every single time it goes through everything, gets to stage 3 of 3 100% and then it says:

Service Pack did not install. Reverting changes. Please do not turn off your computer.

I then get an error message when I log back onto windows:

E_FAIL (0x80004005)

I have tried lots of times now, all with the same effect. I've tried in safe mode, in safe mode with norton all turned off. I dont know what else to try. Any help would be greatly appreciated and being only 15 makes life difficult with these things. Thankyou

I dont have a solution for it, but i am facing the same trouble. i didnt try the safe more procedure though....but anyway, my pc seem to be running fine without the sp2. so i got no complaints.

are you facing any difficulty because u dont have the sp2?

aviation man! nice one! i couldnt find what that error meant for ages yesterday! im gunna try it now :)

and the other reply: everythings ok up to now i think but i dont know if not having it would wreck future updates etc...

i dont know how to do this:

To work around this issue, turn off the computer and physically unplug all drives that are not required for starting Windows. Power up the computer and restart the service pack installation.

does that mean my wireless mouse or what? sorry im not very good at this yet

Where does it say to do that? Does it say that before you tried to install the service pack?
