Windows 8?

So I heard Windows 8 is coming out 2012, any truth to this? Is there talk of a soon to be released Beta like with windows 7? I also heard somehting about 128 Bit technology in 8?
 
2012 seems to be the expected timeline. As Yoyagerfan said it's all speculation. Windows 8 should look alot like windows phone 7 and should work on all platforms
 
I have been looking at some stuff online, it looks like late 2012 and you are right with the windows phone look and to be honest I don't know if I like it, how you guys?
 
I've they go to that tiles look I will drop windows entirely or stick to win 7 until they some sense of what they are doing. That tile interface would be good for a touch screen or a remote look at windows media center.
 
there are really early milestone windows 8 downloads available already, although its pretty much win 7 with a couple of minor visual extra, ive read windows 8 will be focused on kinect style motion control and did hear of a 128 bit version which is unlikely bit hopefully after all they have had 64 bit windows for years
 
if its set for late 2012 it will come out fall 2013... yeah i hope not every version of windows 8 is tiled like that... i mean it looks neat and all but they cant expect businesses to go to that... or maybe it can be turned off...i think its still built on the explorer am i wrong?
 
You will be able to use either the tile layout or the classic windows layout. How those two will co-mingle has yet to be seen. I can say that windows 8 seems to use less resources than windows 7 so far(about 300mb more ram free @ idle). While I don't really like the idea of the tile interface for keyboard and mouse, I can see it being useful for my touch screen netbook.
 
wouldnt a 128 bit OS need a 128 bit processor? not 100% sure, but I dont think that there are many desktop processors that have 128 bit instruction sets yet. May be there with the LGA2011 in SB and bulldozer, but probably not.

Yes, the 128 bit rumor is bs. There is absolutely no reason for it except to say "I can support more bits than you, ha!"
 
well, even if the rumor isnt BS, its not really something to brag about. "hey I can support this when there is hardware to support it". Even the current 64 bit systems are yet to be fully taken advantage of. youd need about a 50 or so GB stick of ram to get the average 4 DIMM system to exceed 64 bit ability. even then, shouldnt they go to 96 instead of 128? (32+32 to get 64, 64+32=96?)
 
Looks the same to me, with a UI overlay. Still the same old file system. Starting to look like the 98/98SE/ME fiasco.

sorry, but whats the point of 128bit when pretty much NO ONE even utilizes 64bit??? thats just stupid... bill gates come back!!!! lol...

and whats with everyone going to the "mobile" look? i checked out OSX Lion at my friends house, who is registered as a developer, (he didnt know i checked it out until he got out of the bathroom lol) and what i will say is that they really need to keep the iPad (and other mobile devices!!!!) SEPERATED from the computer!! now WINDOWS is doing it? oh my god... *throws every computer owned out the window*
 
I would not upgrade anyway. Ive had windows 7 pro for maybe 20 months.
When its over i will.

A lighter side if you want the meanest, baddest, operating system you would write
in strictly machine code with a assembler. That won't happen. Why, because they write
in something like 'C' or what ever then run a compiler. Then again why. Because computers are faster now and a complete operating i think would be very complicated
to write anyway. Even Microsoft has many people figuring out and working on different
segments or subroutines.

Just a thought. NO, im not a programmer then again if you know then please expand on it. Im only guessing. Im just saying no one programs in machine code any more.

Many of the run time compilers i think are sloppy.
Love to see a firefox written in machine code only for lightening fast i think.

Windows 7 is not even fully developed yet and more people still use XP...seems like 5 years too soon for Win8
 
The "bitness" of a processor is not just about how much memory it can address. It affects a whole lot of things, including the raw number-crunching power. While I don't think there will be a 128-bit system for the consumer market in the near future, discrediting such rumours solely on the basis of "we don't even use that much memory" is just silly.

They usually go up in powers of two. x86 started as 16-bit with the 8086, then 32, then 64.

There will probably never be a 96-bit system. Not that it couldn't be done, it's just a bit awkward number to work with.
 
I didnt even realize that. But it makes sense.
As for the statement of its not all about memory, that makes more sense too. Like these 512 and 348 and such bit GPUs with only 1 or 1,5GB of ram.
