Were the first Quad-Core Processors introduced in the year 2006? This is the information I found on Wikipedia. Was it Intel or Advanced Micro Devices who introduced the first Quad-Core Processor?

Depends on if you mean true or 2x duals glued together.
I believe Intel released the first quad core, but AMD the first REAL 1x4, not 2x2.
I can't recall with servers, but i still think Intel was first.

Yeah, amd had the first monolithic quad, but i believe the first quad of any kind(1x4 or 2x2) was the intel QX6700. But i think amd was first with quad cpu(even though it was 2x dual core) with the, what was it called... Quad FX with the FX-70 wasnt it?

The Core 2 Quad-Core processors would be considered Quad-Core processors.

Some differing information in this thread on what was the first Quad-Core processor.

well intel had quad core servers out end of 2006, and then the Kenstfield quadcore early 2007. not sure about bomberboy's AMD cpus though.

Is that what the Core 2 Quad processors are

And the newer I7 is the actual real quad core processor ??

Yeah, Intel just put 2 dual core chips on the same die. i7 is monolith quad core, all 4 single cores on it, each on able to hyperthread, so it's an effective 8 threads.

Thanks for the information. The Core 2 Quad QX6700 processor was the first Quad-Core released in November 2006.

Anyone know when the AMD Quad-Core processor was released and what it was?

First true AMD quad was the phenom, but previously amd had a dual processor (FX-70/72/74) dual socket motherboard config known as quad fx, or more commonly 4x4.

Nope, 2006, technology has come a long way, just to think in only 2004 we only had prescott which sucked, and by 2006 had quadcore core 2's.
