What mouse and mouse pad to get?

I've been using a Microsoft Intellimouse 1.1 since the days when a Geforce 2 MX was shit hot and Half-Life 1 was graphically astounding. It's time to move on haha, has treated me well though, still clicks and scrolls like it did from day one.

I'm also looking for a new surface/mouse pad. My more recent Everglide Titan mini-mat has worn down a fair bit and I want to go a bit larger :)

I'm looking for a mouse with at least 4 buttons (including left and right click), must be wired, either symmetrical or suitable for left-handed people, nothing too whacky in shape and if possible a button to immediately change DPI up and down.

I use quite a low sensitivity now, so maybe a lower DPI is suitable? I don't really know or understand DPI though.

If your familiar with source games, I tend to use 3.0 sensitivity for games requiring precision (counter-strike, half-life 2) and usually 5.0 for faster paced games (left 4 dead, team fortress 2)

For the mouse surface, I really don't know. Something reasonably big but not massive, nothing too thick and I don't really have a preference over material, cloth has treated me pretty well though.

I'm British so if you want to link me please use UK sites, I have a budget of around £60-70.

Thanks for any input guys :)

The logitech G5 is a good gaming mouse. Basically a wired version of the G7, and you won't need a mousepad with any gaming mouse from logitech. they use this stuff that glides across any surface (just about) on the bottom.

well i have a opinion, and i feel like im the only one.

i have this mouse

www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16826104019&cm_re=logitec_mouse-_-26-104-019-_-Product

i believe this the best mouse EVER! for FPS,MMORPG,strategy ANY GAME!

here are other mouses ive tried so you people know where im comming from

www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16826104178&cm_re=logitec_mouse-_-26-104-178-_-Product

www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16826104079

every mouse listed there is BAD <---opinion
reasons
1.too big ( i am a fan of smaller mice, easier to move and easier to have more precise movement. )

2. WAYYYY too much DPI ( for any kind of gaming i think 1000 is the best. for any game or genre. Because it is precise but not OVERLY sensitive.)

3.uncomfortable. (i dont use a big mouse pad, so i feel like a smaller mouse is more comfortable and easier to pick up off the mouse pad to quickly move around, also i like how i can grab the whole thing. Especially with the razer deathadder i felt that it was slipping out of my hands. My hands are average size. they are not big and they not not small. I know how some people have big mouse pads so they like being able to slide it around and move it all over the place, but that's not my personal preference.)

conclusion.
the mouse i like: www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16826104019&cm_re=logitec_mouse-_-26-104-019-_-Product

reason
1. small(easier to grip and control)
2.perfect DPI
3.nice smooth look

i dont feel you meed insane DPI for gaming, i would use the death adder more for photo editing which i do alot of so overall if your like me and you like gripping the whole mouse and being able to pick it up and move freely with a good DPI and reliability then go with the logitech i like. Its also only like 18 dollars! its my fav mouse :/

I'm personally a Logitech junkie and I personally loved the Logitech MK300 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16823126069&Tpk=mk300 .

***EDIT***
I have this mousepad http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produ...re=kensington_mousepad-_-26-999-006-_-Product (Shipping's the killer >.<)

umm, too much dpi is better, you can adjust sensitivity. all it does is it is able to recognizes faster movement. i think 4000dpi and do like 200ft/second. where 1000dpi does only 50ft/s. someone can correct me if im wrong.

I've been using this Logitech G5 four about three years (the same one) and it hasn't given up on me yet. Great mouse, good price, nice sensitivity settings, and very reliable. I would definitely recommend it.

As for a mousepad, I just use a random circular one.

its not suitable for left handers, but hte Cyber Snipa Stinger is the best mouse i have used

Comfy (fits hand perfectly), cheap, on the fly DPI switching, buttons are easily, and very quckly accesible, but they not in the way, brilliant software, weight system, comes with spare feet etc

I have used:

Razer - Diamondback 3G, DeathAdder, Copperhead
Logitech - G5, G7, MX1000 and MX518

and this mouse topped them all for me

Check it out here

but its made for righties only...

As for Mouse pads

I got the Razer Goliathus Control edition

The surface is smooth and hte mouse glides perfectly (at firsts, you catch a bit, but it runs in after a week)

the nice thing is that the surface has deeper contours than the speed edition, so it allows for better precision, but physical movement is slightly slower (its still glides fast though...)

and it comes in a HUGE size, trust me, its big, i made a mistake, i shouldve bought the medium one...
