What is the best laptop?

Hello all,

I'm new to the forum, but I have a question for all of you other computer savvy people out there. My employer is looking to replace the laptop I currently work on. This thing is so dinosaur slow that at times I want to just cry. Let me explain slightly what I need to be able to do on the computer. I'm in marketing/graphic design. I need to be able to run multiple different programs efficiently at the same time, I use Adobe CS3 products daily and not just one at a time, so I need these to run seamlessly. A lot of files get stored on my computer, and not just text files. LOTS of PDF's and other image files. I create newsletters, flyers, brochures, etc. so I've got to stay versatile with the computer. And again, I stress, I must be able to do lots of things at once. Generally I'll be in the middle of one project when I'm suddenly required to jump into another and then another. Also, the computer has to be a laptop as my employer either has to take it herself or somebody else has to for presentations. So it has to be able to travel easily. So my employer wants to go with Dell first and foremost. I spoke with a representative and also looked up info on my own and what I gathered was that the Dell Precision M4300 is the best they've got and with a few added features it will be the laptop of our dreams. However, I'd like to see what else may be out there so that I may give my employer some options instead of feeling like we're cornered. Although, if this laptop is the best and that's really all there is to it I'm fine with that, but I'd just like to know that first before assuming it. If anybody has any suggestions, comments, anything, I would certainly appreciate hearing from you! I'm open minded, so if you have something besides Dell to recommend please do so. So what are my options?
 
RAM is important.

If you are going to be running vista + CS3 you will need 2gb ram. No less.
Also a dual core cpu (a core2duo preferably) would be good

also for graphics design you want something with a high resolution, or a 17" screen ,if possible.
 
Hey, because sager's use better parts than macs, that means they drain the battery faster. Sager has better hd's, larger screen resolutions, better processors, graphics cards, but the battery life is worse. That makes the mac win, according to kill bill.

And some more immaturity from Kill Bill, sager laptops can be configured with desktop and laptop processors, so because the company offers desktop cpu's that means they don't offer laptop cpu's according to Kill Bill.

As a network administrator myself, and supporting several graphic design departments over my time at several jobs, they all run Macs. I will list you the benefits over windows boxes now.

1) Security, Unix based OS trumps windows every single time

2) It just works and simplicity - why spend 20 minutes trying to find some complicated feature?

3) Powerful high end hardware, and every feature you would want built in.

4) Higher quality machines with less down time - everything has its rate of failure, period. Even Apple machines do. However, with the higher quality control that Apple has over it's machines you don't see as many problems as you do with windows.

I used to manage 10,000 windows clients, 70+ windows servers and now I manage 6,000 Mac clients and about 20ish Mac servers. I have experience with both platforms.

Thank you all so very much for the input. I'll check into all of that so I can give my employer some options. I never expected such a great response, so again, thank you all very much. I had no idea about some of the systems mentioned. I appreciate it!

Their mostly known with desktop cpus like should I visit the site. Wouldnt be interested. Oh and immaturity because the battery life will drain Well wake up. A Desktop CPU is 65watts Hello a 9 cell battery. Thats terrible.
 
If you do ANY amount of research, you would have found that they can have laptop and desktop processors. But you make a random statement about them only offering desktop cpu's because a member of this forum ordered one with a desktop cpu.
 
Core 2 duo is a desktop processor. The differences are in voltages for power consumption and of course heat give off

wtf are you talking about. Its used in laptops too, in fact its the main intel chip, and a key part of thier centrino specification.

In case you didnt know, the whole core2 architechture evolved from the pentium M , which evolved out of the classic pentium design, as opposed to the "netburst" architechture pentium 4 (now becoming defunct) due to the fact intel saw that greater efficiency as a better choice than constantly increasing clock speeds.

No actually Duo is replaced in notebooks is properly centrio. So for example we call: Intel Core 2 Duo E6600 or E8550 or what ever. The notebook should be called Intel Core 2 Centiro T9300 or T5600 etc. Pentium M is pretty nice for sub notebooks.

I'm the fanboy. I like sager,dell,alienware,hp,gateway,asus, ect. and you like mac. Saying that a c2d processor is not meant to be used in laptops is like saying quad cores are not meant to be used in desktop. It makes absolutly no sence.

A core 2 duo and a core 2 centrio are different.
