What happen to software on the Web?

I use to only use Windows prior to 2008, but I remember with every fresh install I would go and install need applications from the web especially from cnet.com. My aunt gave me her Dell XPS 430 saying that it was freezing and running really slow, I found her problem was tones of bloatware installed in which where all trying to run at the same time. I felt a fresh install was in order with applications I personally pick out. So I get the machine running with a fresh Vista and I start to install software and for little things I used to go to cnet.com and I found myself prompted with tones of added on software when I tried to install just what I needed. Hell even Adobe tries to install a damn google bar when I was putting flash on the computer. I understand I am smart enough to know to opt out of the extra software install but most end users are not and I was shocked to see reputable sites like cnet and Adobe pull these stunts on people. Just felt a need to rant!

Yeah it's annoying but it's how they make money - especially if the software you are downloading is free to use.

This is why I never download shit from CNet anymore. They seem to package everything in their own little junk installer that tries to get you to download shit with every program, before it actually downloads the actual program you wanted to install. And Java is just as bad, it tries to get you to install toolbars.

It sucks, but most companies' bottom line is to make money, and that's how they do it. Packaging those things in your installer can net you a very good income if you're a software developer with a popular program.

I'd be totally okay with it if none of that shit was checked to install when I click next, it should all be unchecked by default.

Haha I know how you feel! :D

This is why you use custom install so you can hand pick what you want.

Exactly. But most of the people do not know or simply do not pay attention on that so they just click NEXT,NEXT,NEXT,NEXT...,FINISH!
And later they are like:"What the hell is this?!This sucks I did not install all this crap!"
And I say:"You deserve this happening to you when you just click NEXT,NEXT,NEXT...and FINISH without even reading a single letter during the installation." :D:D:D Hehehe!!! :D:D:D

I say they shouldn't have to worry about that shit. It's not their fault.

I don't think it is the people fault, yeah they push next, next , finish but someone like my aunt wouldn't know what the install software is talking about anyway.

I usually fix peoples computers who are completely oblivious, I remember last year I was fixing this one guy's computer who honestly thought that right clicking and deleting the icon off his desktop and then emptying his trash removed software from his computer.

Oh and I can honestly say I will not be using cnet anymore either lucas, I haven't really need to be on there in so long but I want to make sure I get everything installed so she doesn't go searching for the software and download crap all over again, now I know and that is half the battle.

Very nice, I will have to remember this the next time I do a Windows install which is not very often.

Just curious...when was the last time you reinstalled Windows?
Everyone else can also answer the question :D
Here is my answer:

"I was using Windows 98 SE until 2004. when finally in July of 2004. I installed XP for the first time and until this moment I still never reinstalled it :P.Of course I have my drive cloned in the case something goes wrong..."

Doesn't matter, really.

I reinstall every other month or so usually. Latest install for me was installed on April 27th 2013.

And I have a backup of my system in case anything goes wrong.

Why do you reinstall so often?

My first install of XP lasted for about seven years.

Because I often screw stuff up and don;t have the time to sort it out properly so I just reformat and reinstall or re-image my system. Reinstalling is quick when you have an SSD.
