What AMD processor whips the Pentium 4?

I know nothing of AMD, I would like to build a system between a Pentium 4 and Core 2 Duo. I thought I would give AMD a chance, instead of plopping in a Pentium D. This is for my father so, it will word process, surf, and play some online Poker. basically nothing. I just want to show him I can best his Dell Dimension 3000, since he won't even touch my PC.

Thanks

AMD pretty much dominated the market before the Core processors from Intel. Any Athlon 64/X2 will beat the its Pentium counter-part.

My old socket A AMD Athlon XP 3200+ Barton core 2.2GHz beat the P4 3GHz at stock. I could OC that thing a mother fudger

It sounds like I screwed up by buying two P4 systems and building one. But, that was before I was on the forum :D. Now with the X2 4600, are we speaking of "flying through apps".

The 65W 4600+ is an awesome deal.
Especially for 123.
Performance is less than the 6300... True.
But even after the price drops, it's still a heck of a lot cheaper.
Not worth upgrading to C2D imo.

Oh, and I paired it with a M2NPV-VM microATX board.
Works perfect :]
Running stable at 2.7Ghz.
Stock cooler, 29C under load w/ AS5.
The stock cooler is so quiet :s
All my old computers sound like a bus or something.
and I can't even hear this one running when I'm 3 feet away.

[went with that mainboard to hold off buying a GPU until the new cards come out, and it's onboard graphics aren't all that bad]

Thats complete BS, you're processor isnt equivalent to a 6.6Ghz Pentium 4, just goes to show you cant trust those.

The Athlon 64 series pretty much outperforms the P4 series.

What program can be trusted then,.. so we can run rests and compare?
