updating my pocket pc windows

hi guys,

ive got a hp ipaq and i want to update windows and i dont know wether you can or not, can you, if so can anyone tell me how, what windows version do i get windows ce or another windows version like windows mobile
 
Only ways to update windows mobile is if your manufacturer has released a firmware update, other than that... you cant really update it. Eg- I have a dell axim X30 thats running windows mobile 2003 SE, which sucks and i cant update to win mobile 5/6 because dell never offered an update.

Not necessarily. In most pocketPCs the OS is burned into the ROM of the machine. Upgrading it is not the same as what you would go through on a PC.
 
that really sucks if that is the case so that means you have to wait until your brand who you bought it of supports it like my ipaq only supports windows mobile 2003, and because its an old ipaq i highly doubt thell support it now, so that means i ahve to buy a new ipaq

Pretty much... but thats how they can keep selling pocketpc's, how much improvement have you seen in 3 years from the Axim X51 to the newest ipaqs.... same basic platform(processor speed same, memory amount same,etc) but the newer models now have a newer os, and the only way to get it is with new ones:(
