Thermal Pad?

Should I really use a thermal pad instead of thermal grease?

I don't beleive that... I've seen computers where the thermal pad has basically melted to nothing as was gunked up all around the processor's die. There was really nothing left between the CPU and heatsync... Now, some pads aren't too bad, but those that are just pink rubber...I wouldn't even try using that junk again...

My AMD retail pkg came with the grey thermal pad. I have not had a problem in the 2-3 years I've had it.
