with this can i delete my regular Windows me and install Xp with it ...XP was done preloaded witht he new computer we jus got but i'm wantin to fix the old'n up and i dont wana delete it if i cant install it with the c.d

On the c.d it says

Use this disc to reinstall your operating system...now i think i can but i dont know if it means if ..............HMMM???? nvm but if u can answer the question thank u

where did you get the copy of XP home? If it's an upgrade or a full version, then yes you can install it over ME or format and install XP, respectively. If it's just a recovery disk, then it would only work for a computer with XP already installed.

it came with the new computer heres exactky wahat it says

EMACHINES
MICROSOFT WINDOWS XP HOME EDOTION

use this disc to re-installyour aperating system

keep this system recovery disc and all product documentation in a safe place

to reinstall the operatibng system ,programs and drivers

insert discv ,close all programs, restart your computer then follow the on srcreen instructions

WARNING
the recoverryprocess erasess all data and files from hard drive

so dose that mean i can put it in and it'll erase everything and i can get xp?

it's sort of conflicting information in a way, it's called a recovery disk but then it sounds like it formats and is bootable meaning you can install it standalone. My guess is it's bootable and you can install XP on whatever, but you might want to wait for another opinion before doing that

That is what I will have to do tomorrow when my parts come... use my recovery CD to re-install windows completely since Im getting a new mobo.... I hope to god it works or I will have to be on hold with Microsoft for like 4 hours...

the recovery disks won't actually install XP on a blank hard drive, it just repairs a copy of XP already on the computer. With a bootable disk (what I called standalone) you put the disk in the disk drive, the computer reads what it's supposed to do with it without anything being on the computer yet, has the capability of formatting, and installs XP.

So, since I already have Windows XP on my hard drive, the recovery CD will recognize that and just re-format and re-install windows?? I am not getting a new hdd so I assume I will be able to.

oh are u explaining what i asked u ...or is u telling me that my disc wont do what i want it to do"???? ( delet windows me and install XP?

I'm saying I think yours should do what you want, but I was also explaining the two different types of OS disks, recovery and bootable
