System Lag

I getting a lot of system lag all of a sudden. I'm running media center (watching tv) while using the internet and when ever the page changes or i hover over anything on the computer and it brings up one of the yellow tip windows the video in media center lags. does anybody know what could cause this? i have an idea that its the mobo cause i experienced this before on my old computer and i hopes its not that. and my processor is overclocked to 2.8 from 2.13.
 
Heres what I would try, go to your display porperties, and under the appearance tab, click on "Effects" and then disable everything. (This just stops all the little animations that windows does)
 
I use the following programs once a week: I have loads of programs but my computer remains fast.

1.Spybot Search and Destroy
2.Defrag or Diskeeper Lite
3.Tweak UI (Just need to use once)
 
i figured out the problem was that when I used the portrait display, cause my monitor rotates, it does that lag. thanks guys, im still gonna try ur ideas cause it still never lagged when I was in portrait and I'll reply if anything works
 
i know that when windows update has this alps touch pad update for my desktop, my mouse starts to lag wheneve i startup my pc.
 
while a video is playing in media center it fluctuates from 4 - 12% but once I drop a context menu, it shoots up to 53 - 60%
