Show off your speed

Just got a new modem, feeling like king of teh world. Lol, this is the fastest I've ever had. Over ethernet, its considerably faster, but I cab't really use ethernet on a daily basis. Ethernet, down is like 50
Dude you need a new router badly if you get 20 Mbps on WiFi and 50 over Ethernet.
This. If you get 50 over ethernet, which is a good connection, but only 20 on WiFi you should really upgrade your wireless network to at least 802.11n. Preferably a dual-band AP.

Next to an access point with nobody else in the school. :)

Nice! We get ~115Mbps download on our school device LAN, and ~55Mbps on our student device LAN, but the upload speeds are only 20 and 15Mbps.

I do believe it is an N router, but my computers wireless antenna is in a corner, and I have time warner cable, not exactly the best ISP. After multiple tests, I can get up to 45 on my tablet right in front of the router

It's a wireless issue, not an ISP issue if you get ~50 wired and only 20 wireless in your room.

Didnt know TW offered speeds this slow, last I checked their lowest speed was supposed to be 15mbps, and then they lowered that to 10mbps. Either way, I cant wait until Google Fiber makes its way to me....its only 12 miles away right now....

Yup according to that 15mbps is the lowest speed they offer, so once again they are trying to rob people. Luckily, the only person they are robbing now is my mom because last time we had TW they tried to charge me $300 for internet and I told them I wasnt paying that and it turned into them just ruining my credit, but I still never paid them because I never owed them that. Now they are charging her $50/month for 2mbps which is just ridiculous when they were SUPPOSED to be charging me $80/month for 50mbps (which I only peaked at 25mbps down and they still wanted to charge me the 50mbps even after they couldnt fix the problem).

Once I again, I strongly suggest people to look elsewhere for cable/internet....time warner will always rob you and then over charge you to ruin your credit.

I wholeheartedly agree, time warner is the absolute worst. I pay for the most expensive package, supposedly 50 down, and only get like 7 3/4s of the time. Word to the wise, no TW

Did you call them about the speeds? I'd be pissed if I were you.

My AT&T Uverse at home is pretty slow. Pull about 7.5 down and 1.5 up when the speed we pay is 6 down and 1 up. However I do give them credit for being incredibly reliable. Our internet has maybe gone out or been excessively slow a handful of times in the year and a half we've had it.

Their pricing is crazy though. I think 6 down is 42 bucks a month. But my dad just calls them when our promo period is over and threatens to leave until they knock the price back down to like 30 again for 12 months.

I love my dorm wired internet though. 25 down and 5 up at all times and rock solid. The wifi is flat terrible though on my laptop and not even usable on my phone with how the user login works. I've been using exclusively 4G on my phone since I moved here.

I thought you said wired connections were always faster Geoff ;)

Iv been trying to do my own troubleshooting with my internet when I get off work, I have no idea what they did when they installed it last time....guy must have been a complete idiot because they literally didnt have to do ANYTHING because all the cables were already ran, and new, from the last installation.

From what I can see, since I wasnt home when they did this, was they cut 2 cables that went to the room Im in (didnt use them anyway), and then cut 2 more cables that Im not entirely sure what they went to as I didnt take the time to follow them since they are paired up with 10 other cables.

I will have to get around to cleaning up all the damn cables we have running all over this house....its a freakin mess under my house with cables just everywhere. Since only 2 cable locations are being used right now, Im stripping out all the others so I can see just the cables that are being used and see if maybe theres any kinks in them.

Apart from that, looks like I will have to find time to contact twc and tell them to fix it, and then demand they reimburse me for 1 month of having crap internet (even though its been much much longer than that) or I will take my business elsewhere.

Im going to put money on the problem being the modem, as I have no idea what this thing is that they gave me for a modem. Its a giant box with an off-brand name and it looks like it was made in 1985. But I would like to have this problem sorted by next week when all the good games will be coming out so I can play online with my friends without issues.

TWC just gave me new modem/router, and my speeds shot up. However, the signal was horrible, and the WiFi was practically unuseable. But once I hooked up my router, speeds ae still slow, but performance is okay

My TWC shat itself at midnight, I had to switch to a Freedompop Wimax unit to flesh out the rest of my counter-striking. It stayed pretty solid at ~90ms. Not too bad for a free plan (500 MB).

Yeah, I wish I could switch from TWC, but its the only provider in my area.

Their highest speeds are 50 down, which we pay out the ass for, and we only get 25 on a good day

Alright, well turns out we are paying $15/month for something called ELP Internet. Everyday-low-price. And that is supposed to be 2mbps down 1 up. Which is almost impossible to use. Impossible for 2 people anyway. If one person is using it, no other device can do anything with it. But it does stream netflix and hulu perfectly fine, provided only one machine is using it.
