Show off your speed

At my school our Wifi (which is one Motorola router every like 20 feet or so on the ceiling which they all have the same SSID) only gets like 2 down and 0.5 up but our ethernet is a lot faster and last year I think it was 50/25. Tonight I got chess club so I'll sneak into the comp lab and log into my machine and get y'all a Speedtest.
I did a Speedtest and it said our ISP was "Marlboro Electric Cooperative Inc" and it's in Columbus OH

They make cigarettes and defibrillators, right in the same building...LOL

It's capped on both. Just so happens the upload isn't as good as the download. ;)

If it were uncapped I'd be getting at least double this speed, possibly triple.
I still don't think it's capped, as that's a very strange ratio to cap at. Do you know if it's fiber? If so, it should be symmetrical, but this is sounding like it's something else. ~350Mbps/24Mbps is a really weird speed to cap at. My guess would be it's not capped, but instead it's a limitation of your network hardware not allowing a single device to get higher speeds, at least when the test was run.

Just as an example, we have 20Gbps connection to the internet at work, but of course the edge switches are only 1Gbps for clients, but even then depending on when I run the test I may get anywhere from 900mbps to 400Mbps, just because of the load on the rest of the equipment.

Yeah it's fibre directly to Virgin Media. It should be symmetrical. I believe the network is capped, probably at about 120/120 for students on Wi-Fi but yeah I'm only getting 20 upload. Oh well. :D

Just curious but aren't fiber lines orange tube looking things? Because there's several junction boxes in my neighborhood on poles with orange wires going into houses and the boxes say WOW FIBER!

I rarely get over 77Mbit in Kitchener. Paying for 100, doubt I'll ever see it though. Plus anytime I get a skype call my rate drops to the floor.
I have some servers in Kitchener and they suck balls, so it's probably not just you :P

Rogers is the spawn of Satan. Too bad Bell is no better. Our minor players just rent lines from those two so besides getting slightly better prices, you gain very little.

This is to what ever google.ca resolves to at the present time.

Yes the cables are usually orange and very thin.

I live in Calgary, but I'm currently working in southern Ontario out of New Hamburg, so just west of Waterloo--but also DT Toronto.. Its usually 250-300 here and thats the 250M rogers plan..I think since nobody lives out here, and those who do are on Bell, that we see bit better results than others.

I know at an office in Toronto they have the new Rogers Gigabit service, but I'm not there to test it out. :(

Can I run a wire underground to Toronto from Columbus Ohio and tap into this high speed line? Over 600 miles of copper it'll probably still be faster than my 15mbps I have now (/s)

Probably not, if you had 600 miles of copper you would be better off just selling it for a better rig.

My company has a data center in Columbus, if you can provision out some fiber I'll give you a switch port to terminate into :P
