hi every1,

currently i hav 2 computers in my house atm. i hav broadband connection (512 k/b ) and now i want 2 share my internet connection. however on my broadband modem i don't hav an ethernet slot/out. therefore i can't use a router which is a shame. some1 mentioned that i can use a crossover ethernet cord 2 connection both of my computers. can some1 explain exactly how i can that?

thnks

Yes

It's simple. You buy a crossover cable of the required length. Plug that into both PCs. Then, the computer that is actually connected to the Internet has to have the shared internet connection option ticked under its connection (Network Connections). Then that should enable Internet connection sharing. Ask me for more questions. However, be aware that the PC connected to the net will have to be ON for the other PC to connect to the Inet.

hi,

thnks 4 your reply, but it seems like that i don't hav that option when i click on properties for my broadband connection. could this b the reason y i can't share my internet connection?

cheers

Hmmm

You should be able to see it under the Advanced TAB. Check "allow other users to use connect through this computer's internet connection."

hi,

sorry 4 being v.stupid but i only know a little about computers but which modem shud i be lookin at. cos it just occured 2 me that under my network connection, i hav 4 modems: 56k (which i doubt it's the 1 i neeed 2 look at), local area connection 1 (thats the network modem thingy- ethernet tthingy), local connection 2 (my broadband modem) and 1394 connection modem (which i hav no idea wot's it about...). so under which modem shud i enable "allow other users to use connect through this computer's internet connection."

It should be done under the broadband connection ;). The 1394 is the FIREWIRE connectivity turned on. It's not any sort of Internet Connection.

on the broadband connection, if you cant tell the difference between the LAN and the Modem, double click on both of them, and whichever is the lowest speed (mine says 12.0MBps), then that is your modem. Unless your computer only has a 10MBps LAN (which i doubt).

hi,

thnks. i've checked my broadband modem and under the advanced tab, it definitely hasn't got the internet sharin connection box/option. therefore i can't share my internet connection due to the fact that i hav a bad ISP: AOL- always tryin 2 get more money out of u but business is like that! o well! however thnks 4 your help!

p.s unless there's another way around it??? (which i doubt tbh but i'm prob wrong...)

if u had read my 1st message, i clearly stated that i can't use a router because i don't hav an ethernet out on my broadband modem.... also wot does wingate do or wot is it?

thnks
