What would be a recomended power ratring for a PSU if the computer was going to be used for running music half the time and gaming the other...?
If i were to go for a 600W PSU does it mean that it constantly uses 600W of power?

Can you post your system specifications? Every component has different power usage.

Make sure you look at the ampers on 12V rail/s when buying a PSU.

Playing music shouldnt make a big difference, unless your one of them with a big sound system attachedto your pc

Ebuyer Extra Value 600w PSU in black

as you can tell its form ebuyer, but i was wondering wether when the pc is on does a 600W PSU constantly use up 600W? or does it vairy according to demand?

400W PSU (with around 35A @ 12V rail/s) would be enough for that rig, your computer would use let's say around 300W when idle and around 350W when playing games. (maybe more but not above 400W)

Save you money, you don't need that much wattage for that PC.

OK cheers... maybe i was a bit enthusisatic!! If and when i get some more ram (1gb+) will that change the demand?

You will be ok with a 400W PSU even with 4 GB of RAM with that riig of yours, just remember, not all 400W PSU's are the same, search for those that have 32A+ on 12V rail/s.
