Thats what Photoshop is for!
I'm fairly crap with Photoshop to be honest, as I only use it now and again. I've heard its possible to do things like that with it, but personally I wouldn't know where to begin. Probably end up ruining the thing! BTW here is the link to Desktopography if you want it. Some brilliant wallpapers there.
