PC games - Windows 8

I was browsing through Amazon looking at games for the PC and noticed that the OS requirements were for windows 7 and not 8.

I ask as I am going to get a new PC and will choose Windows 7 because of this, but I though windows 8 was supposed to be better?

They only say windows 7 because they were created when windows 7 was out not windows 8. However, anything that will play on 7 will play on 8. They are basically the same OS except for the metro UI.

Like john said,If games say they will work in Windows 7 then they should work in windows 8 too,Ive not had any of my games not work on 8 yet even older ones..BF4 performs better in Windows 8 too.

As for windows 8 been the same as windows 7,It is in some aspect although there's more changes under the hood,Its quicker at shutdown/boot up and file transfers ive found.

This alone isn't really a worthy upgrade if you already have windows 7,But as your looking to buy an OS i would say get 8.1.

However, I know some are having issues with drivers and stuff in 8. But I'm not sure if thats when they have upgraded from 7 to 8 or if its updated and possible fresh install.

Not had any problems with drivers and Windows 8 on any my machines. Got 8 installed on a range of machines now - oldest being a Socket 775 box with an E5300.

It's rare but it's not ALWAYS the case that if it works on 7, it will on 8. My friend and I both installed the same copy of Crysis on our machines with similar specs. He had 8 and I had 7. His wouldn't work at all and mine wasn't a problem.

From what Iv heard from people who have Windows 8, they dont really like it. It does have problems with some games that 7 does not.

What John said is 100% correct except, some computers may have issues, as Shane said..

I know some games created for XP that say they run Win7, but won't work on Win8.. ex. Lego Racers & Hot Rod: Garage to Glory

I have a game that was created for Windows 2000. Was made in 2002, has worked in XP, Vista, and 7. Havent tried 8 but it seems to be a very sketchy game engine at best. It did not like to play on my X1680 Pro at all but has worked perfectly fine on all my nvidia cards.

This is actually the sequel to the original which I think was released in 2001 and was meant for Windows 2000. Im not sure the actual game engine is any different, with the 2.3.0LE update they did add some graphical features but hardly anything to brag about mostly just horrible motion blur and particle effects.

Most of the stuff which works on Windows 7 works on 8. I still play RCT3 on Windows 8 and that game was designed for Windows XP and older. It's a 10 year old game now and it works fine on 8.

You will hear comments from both camps as to install Win 7 or Win 8.1. My thoughts are, if you already have Win 7, then you may as well keep it. If you have to buy a new OS, then you may as well buy Win 8.1. Often people say that have "heard" of one or the other OS not being as good at some particular thing. Well, if we all went with what we've "heard" then we would be stuck in place. Both OS are good, go with the one that "you" want.

For gaming they're both the same. So if you already have 7, I wouldn't bother upgrading to 8.1 unless you want to buy a new OS.
