Painting a laptop?

So some people paint their computers and done right turn out really well, and I would like to paint my laptop, however a laptop gets handled a lot more therefore the finish needs to be durable, to handle being touched often and having hands on it! I have had my laptop for three years now and the finish hasn't worn off yet so if its done right it should be able to stand up for a little while longer! I will probably do it on the weekend.
Is this a bad idea? Any tips would be appreciated!

Thats my laptop. Make sure you scuff the top of it well. Then use paint thinner to clean it off before you paint it. I wouldnt advise doing the facing around the keyboard. That you will wear off. Make sure you use at least 4 coats of clear over the top of it. Then wet sand it and buff it out. The clear will protect the color base and not wear off easy. It will also keep the scratches from messing up the paint...and if you get a scratch... you can buff out the scratch. Car paint was used with primer for model cars used under the paint so it wont etch the plastic under the paint.

did you spray that yourself?

looks good

Water :P, seriously though.

Well I would say pretty fine stuff, starting and progressively getting to very fine. You don't have to worry TOO much about it as long as it is smooth before you paint, if you want you could use very fine sandpaper wetsanding in between one of the base paint coats to smooth out any imperfections.

Spend time taping it so you don't regret it when your done.

Clear coat is very important as already mentioned above.

clearcoat

what clearcoat are u using? I tried krylon glaze and retried with varnish but they get scratches easily, even with fingernails! And it's not hard like plastic although it is glossy n plastic looking. But it's not hard solid.. So what clearcoat should I use? I'm thinking of polyeuratuane or krylon acrylc but I doubt krylon acrylic would work. So what did u use to make it undcratchable and durable? Thnx

Well, I started it last weekend and to say the least disaster! apparently you should not rush the drying and curing time, I have had to start from scratch three times now the latest because It stated that you should wait at least 72 hours for the paint to cure before clear coating and I did it after about 60 hours and five minutes after spraying all the paint lifted! so now I will wait and give it more time after starting from the beginning tho. it did look great before the clear coat.

Sorry I am getting back to this thread...since I posted we had a baby. All the paint is automotive paint. When you wet sand it...used 200 then 400 then I used 600. I took a buffer and first use black beauty as a rubbing compound. Then I use wax...any will do. The paint was brite blue. Used on the 80's Camaro's. I added extra metal flake like what is used on bass boats. 4 coats of clear. I should have used more. If you haul your laptop everywhere...I recommend extra coats of clear. I used a medium grade clear. Go with the best if this is going to be something your going to keep.
