can someone tell me how to overclock the p4 521. i got it to 3.66 from 2.8 but i dont think i did it right. all i did was higher the fsb and left everyting else auto. was that a smart thing to do.

P4 521 2.8ghz 1mb 800fsb

motherbaord: P5N-t Deluxe

ps dont tell me to get a new processor cause im getting a q6600 some time next month. i just want to learn to overclock first.

you can OC by changing the FSB and/or the multiplier most people change the FSB (as alot of CPU's multiplier are locked) after chaning the multiplier, change the RAM ratio if you don't want to overclock your ram, or if you don't want to overclock it much,

you need to check the temptures, frying points for processors is spose 2 be round 60 or 65 degrees .. so its good to keep it under that temp.. expecially under load

you need to run a stress test to make sure its stable, i use prime95, google it, if its duel core run 2 instants of it if its quad core run 4 instants of it, test for atleast 8 - 10 hours, i leave it overnight

if u get blue screens or it crashes then its unstable, you can either up the voltage (which can shorten the life of your processor), or lower the clock speed

hope this helps
