Ordering parts from Amazon instead of Newegg?

I've been comparing prices for pc parts on two different sites.

The Antec 1200 case cost $202 shipped vs Amazon $172 shipped.

Western Digital Cavalier Black 1TB $240 shipped from Newegg vs $216 shipped from Amazon.

Is there any reason I should not order from Amazon? I see most people buy their hardware from Newegg or Tiger Direct.

Newegg doesn't always have the cheapest parts, they just have one of the largest selection with a great website and many reviews. If you can get it cheaper elsewhere (as long as it's from a legit place), then I dont' see why you shouldn't get it.

Yeah, if amazon.com has lower prices than go for it, for the most part i use newegg because most of the time their prices are cheaper, the sorting features are a godsend, and the reviews on products kinda help in choosing parts.

i ordered a HDD from amazon once and it never got to my door, had to go through a bunch of shit to get my money back. Make sure the seller has a high rating before you buy.

Agreed. Always a good idea.

If you order directly from Amazon itself, not a separate seller through Amazon, you should have no problem. I've gone with Amazon myself over Newegg and others when the prices are cheaper. They can be pretty fast as well.

Are you from the United States or somewhere else?

That HDD costs like $120USD $150 Canadian. Where are you located?!

just make sure you order it from amazon.com, otherwise yea theyre good especially if you have to return/rma something.

I'm from Texas.

I found that HD for $107.99 each on two different sites so you can definitely get it cheaper than $120.

I wouldn't buy a hard drive from Amazon in my opinion. A hard drive is the most important part of a computer. I would just have concerns about if the hard drive was abused in anyway that might cause it to fail.

Buying a computer case from Amazon I would have no problem with.

Huh? How is buying a hard drive from Amazon infer that it will be abused in anyway? If you are referring to shipping, how is shipping UPS from Amazon different from shipping UPS from Newegg or anywhere else for that matter?

I would trust ZipZoomFly.com, NewEgg.com or TigerDirect.com for the great customer service and standing behind the products they sell over an unknown seller on Amazon. If you are willing to possibly compromise great customer service to save a few dollars go ahead. This is just my opinion, take it if you want to.

All good places. :)

Ah, I completely understand and agree regarding Amazon Merchants. If ordering from Amazon, order direct from them. I've had no troubles and great service that way.

the reason newegg is so great is because of the fact that you can read reviews from other people. newegg is a great tool to piece your computer parts together, but then its up to you whether or not you look around for the best price.

with that being said you might want to check www.slickdeals.net from time to time.

I used newegg for picking which parts and for reading reviews. I ordered most of my parts directly from Amazon not though other sellers on Amazon.

Its hard to beat their prices and offer free shipping even on larger items like cases.

If I'm buying bulk, I use newegg because of the majority of low prices but mostly the reliability and professionalism I've experienced with them. But hey, if you are going to get GREAT savings with someone else "who is reputable", by all means do it!

If an item is coming to you direct from Amazon, it will say that it is being shipped and sold to you from Amazon. If not, you will be notified as to which company the item will come from. This will be listed right on the item's page.

Complications can arise from the fact that you are buying an item from a sometimes untrustworthy third party. Be sure to read up on the third party seller if you have any worries. In a sense, for any purchasing through a third party via Amazon, you should follow best practices of any Ebay purchase. If you don't trust the company, don't buy.

Amazon will take feedback and does monitor (somewhat) the behavior of its third party merchants, but use your discretion. You are purchasing the item from the third party, not Amazon. Your recourse in a dispute is with the third party.
