old packard bell platinum supreme 1956

My bios is 4A4LL0X0.11A,0009.P07........I read that link that has extensive work on this motherboard and I was reading the spot where it gives an intel link for bios upgrade. Will this bios work? Their bios number is 4A4LL0X0.86A.0031.P14

Don't see why not it is a software upgrade.

well I dont know, but I tried the update but when I get into the program, it says select the bios I want to install, only one is shown so I highlight it and it says flashdata image from disk is not valid. dunno if Im doing something wrong or not.

Not being able to see what you are nor the error messages or procedures with that BIOS flash, I'm at a loss to tell you much more... there is an instruction on the page that I referred to that goes into how to do the flash for the BIOS... beyond that since I don't have that board I can't tell you much beyond that.

Either the update doesn't work or you missed a step someplace.

well it says enter the path and name of the data image file.
Path\file: cursur field has a:\*.b10, and in file window beneath that it has p14-0031.b10. Ive never had problems upgrading a bios before but this is dam confusing.

Well, If anybody knows where I can get a bios upgrade for a al440lx intel board, let me know, Id appreciate it.

if you are trying to do this operation within windows (yes even through a shell window) it is not going to work... the instructions say specifically to make a DOS boot disk and do it from there... not from windows

yes thats what I did
made a boot floppy, then extracted the bios.exe files onto the floppy. I stuck it in and waited..........all It did was go to the a prompt then I had to search for the file that would make it run......guess it was iflash.......well when that program runs, it would give me 3 choices, flash memory from a file.......which is what the instructions say then they say to tab once which selects the p10,0031.b10 and hit enter........I saw that file in the floppy once the bios exe was extracted to the floppy. the instructions say to put the disk in and when it boots up to select flash memory from a file so if its supposed to automatically load this bios utility then thats where the problem lies

may very well be. did you try just for laughs A:>bios.exe /help (or whatever the flash utility was) to see what the syntax is for the command line?

nothing comes up, even when I type in bios.exe at the a prompt. Now if I type iflash.exe/help, it comes up with a whole list of stuff

gui-mode options then Command-line mode options, then Standard options.

The tops says intel Flash Memory Update Utility Part 643643-035

type dir/w and make sure that all the files required for the update are there... seems like something is missing off the disk for it to be finding file not found errors

and what files would I be looking for. I see 4 of the p files p10.0031.b10, 11, 12, 13 Not sure whats supposed to be there. K well thanks for all the help....going to bed now. the saga continues tomorrow after 2 pm

If you are unsure about doing Bios updates, or have never done it before
I would suggest that you do not do it. Sometimes (many times on older computers actually) If the Bios update is not done absolutely correctly (or even when it is !!) Your computer may not work again

The manufacture is the only place to get support on doing this correctly
Seeming the computer is so old, I'd say leave it alone (ie not supported)

I'm assuming there were several files in the package and when you bring up the utility that is supposed to do the flash you choose from one of the updates you listed...choose one and give it a shot it all comes down to which one works out in that board..

It is the manufacturers... intel iflash if i recall correct.. same one i used to do an update on a 440bx board a couple months back

Slightly different chipset (and possibly BIOS) but the procedure was much the same. Though I do think the BIOS on my 440bx was an award or phoenix series.
