Oblivion Crashing!

Just got The Elder Scrolls IV Oblivion Deluxe from steam,Installed but the game just crashes...and the sound loops until i ctrl+alt+del and close it.

In the event viewer this is the problem,I have no idea whats going on!

Have tried running as Admin,and as XP SP2 and still no joy.
Have installed the un-official 4gb patch...no joy. :cool:
 
I have a dedicated sound card,(Xonar D1)...However saying that i better check in the BIOS and see if the onboard Realtek is disabled. :)

Ive installed un-official patch + Updater patch and still no go,I get to the game menu and start a new game then i just get a black screen with sound looping.

Soooo annoying!

EDIT-Just checked in Bios,Its actually Azalia Audio (Intel High Definition Audio) thats my onboard,Anyway it was disabled. :/

Try removing the drivers for it. I've had the same problem with other games and just disabling on board sound didn't work.
 
Shane, through the Asus audio centre, does the D1 have the GX sound option? If so, disable it, there are known issues with so many games causing it to crash or not load
 
I know you've got mods loaded but have you tried verifying the game files through steam? My brother gets UI issues were the colours are all corrupted and he needs to verify to fix it.

Ah fantastic....Just disabled GX in the Xonar Center now the game works!

This game looks really nice considering it was released in 2006,I've not installed any graphics mods either yet. :P

I found that one by accident, was stopping Railworks, CoD4, CoD:WaW, Skyrim, TES, even Minecraft to crash or not load at all. Knew it was my sound card, as it was only after I installed it that it stopped working, then found online that it is a very widespread issue with a lot of games
 
Yeah,I was reading loads of pages last night for fixes and everything i tried did not work.
Who would think a little check box in the Xonar center would be the fix. :D

if you want to mod the hell out of oblivion which ive no doubt you will want to at some point, i recommend programs like BOSS (better oblivion sorting software) it sorts out the load order of the mods, without it the game normally doesn't run if you have 1000s of mods installed ha. Its still an awesome game even if its shit comapred to Skyrim
