Check this video out. Its a video showing what happens to different CPU's when the heatsink is removed. Them AMD's dont look to healthy.

<<--Still on dial-up, so I can't really watch the videos, but from what I understand, AMD's do tend to fry faster.....I wonder why...?

Although, really, a solution to not having that happen is rather simple; don't remove the heatsink while it's operating.

ooooh, nasty man. that palamino AMD didnt last long did it? That really is an advert for Intel, none of the chips actually burnt out on the pentiums and all of the AMd's did, and bloody quickly i might add. Although i would like to see waht my prescott does under those conditions.

Lol

LOL....this is such a pointless video. I mean why the hell would anyone test the CPU without the heatsink? The word H E A T S I N K refers to the thing you put on top of the CPU to spread heat and cool it. No HSF.....playing death. It's as simple as that. It's not something that would make me want to go buy a Pentium. It's the same as testing two metals. If one would melt faster, it would not mean that metal is inferior.

PS.: Too bad I cannot find the same video like that from 2005. You will see that this is no longer the case. I also think that boards will shut the PC off when the temp reaches a threshold.

JAN :D

i wonder why the X2 hasnt been tested there
Because its not neccesary (people with X2s tend to have good motherboards which tend to take care of their CPUs ... hehe i'll test when i get my 4200)

would be nice to see the x2s and and64s on there, or the 5xx, 6xx series. They would burn quick

Thats the motherboard failing to adequately protect the chip. I did a live hsf swap with my Palo2100 back in the day and an exposure time >6seconds resulted in the system killing itself

It's THG. nuff said ;) (remember they are the peeps that think Tt can make PSUs :P ... or at least at one point they did)
