New mini pc

Benny Boy:

Your recommendations do indeed seem to be within budget. :)

I just wonder what you mean by a "modular" PSU... Could I get you to specify and perhaps come with a specific example thereof? I suppose the only two things that distinguishes one fan from another is first its ability to cool down sufficiently a component in operation, and second the noise level it creates while doing so. Is this not correctly understood? In case it is, then I just want the quietest fan possible that fits my system, regardless of whether it costs 30 € more or less.

Dear all,

Based upon the latest recommendations in this thread, I have now found these components that I supose fit well together so as to be put together into a functional computer by adding only an OS (Win 7 or 8) and a power outlet (am I right in assuming this; no need for extra cables, tools or any other thing to assemble this thing and make it work?):

This certainly did get quite a bit more expensive than planned, but oh well I already feel that I am getting quite excited about the whole thing. If this really is about as good as it gets for the money, and it will also allow me to access wireless internet with it without any extra add-ons, then "only" remains convincing my wife... But, please do help me confirm this last assumption and let me know also which of the PSU's linked to in this post would be the best buy for my system, before I start the deliberative process at home, and before I go out buying all of this stuff firmly believing in you all that even clumsy little me can build such a thing and make it work as desired... :D

Edit: Structuring the text to make it more readable.

The Minuet comes with a ps.
Something like this would be easier to build in and route ps cables. Plus, it costs less after the CX430 is included. Up to you.

A micro mini tower would be quieter and have more room for your hardware if you have a place for one.

As far as a higher watt ps, you won't need it unless you're planning at some point install a high powered gpu. But if the price is right, might as well get the 500.
Modular(the product description may or may not say 'Semi") means some of the ps cables plug into the ps as well as the part. If certain cables aren't needed, then you don't have to have them connected to the ps and inside your case where you have to deal with them. There's also fully modular where all cables can be disconnected but certain ones always have be. Check out these pics. You can rotate the image to see how the cables are connected to the unit. So modular doesn't refer to its fan, if that's what you meant. Fan vs fan, yes its ability to cool, and if silence is a concern then that too.

Speaking of fans. Small fans spin fast and are louder than large slow spinning. With a case that has enough fans, you can lower the speed of them to make them quieter and still have good cooling.

Not that model Kingston and their good ones will be pricey. This one is good at a low price that I could find. Perhaps you can find one that costs less.

As long as the mb comes with at least 3 data cables, no extra cables or tools needed.

If you think you'll be happier with Intel you could get an I3 + mb for about the same as the AMD platform.

Great, that was all I needed to know before my purchase, except for one thing; will this system be able to go online wirelessly as it is, or do I need to add some kind of wifi component - and if so, which one?

You'll need wireless router and pci card. Someone that knows more about them could recommend better than me.
Curious to know if Minuet is your case decision.

No, because I actually like better the look and price of the other case, and since you told me that it would be a better choice for the hardware, then I do plan to go with that one. Now I "just" need to convince my wife that this is what we should buy, but at least I can present her with a complete system and a total price, so that I can promise her no negative surprises such as additional and unforeseen costs. :)

Edit: Deleted part containing errors - a friend had pointed out that I was mistaken about displayport on my screen, but double checking it confirms I was right; the screen offers DVI, DisplayPort and VGA, and I thus still suppose that DisplayPort is the preferred option of those three.

Please, can anyone help me pick an appropriate card for wireles internet?

I have already spent hours looking, but it seems a true jungle to me and I have still gotten absolutely nowhere closer to selecting a card. I simply have no idea what to look for even though I am also using Google to do something about my ignorance...

I have a router from before.

Could any of these two be a good purchase?

I would get the last one, The Asus. but does it have to be an internal card? Or could you go with an external card?

I actually don't mind whether the wifi module be internal or external, but since I am still not familiar with pc building, I mainly worry about what will fit with and into the case and the other components I have chosen so far (my wife will however probably worry about aesthetics, so for her sake internal would be preferable if possible).

The router is a zyxel p660 hw. These are the best links I have been able to find:
