Need some help

Hey guys, I'm really confused about all of these different programs and just need some help. First off, I'm not sure what the most important thing to have is- firewall, antivirus, anti-spyware/malware. As of right now, my AV subscription is up and I need to get a new one. I have windows firewall running currently. I'm not too concerned about price, but what's the best route to go? I've heard stuff about Kaspersky but I'm not sure if it has everything I need. So I guess I have 2 real questions

1) For my purposes, is a good firewall more essential than a AV program?
2) What should I get to make sure I'm safe?

If your looking to not spend money AVG is a really good antivirus and its free. I use AVG. And ive also heard good thigns about AVAST which is also free. The best antivirus IMO is Kaspersky. If your using Windows XP it has its own firewall, but some people use a differant one. For anti Spyware i use Spybot search and destroy. It works pretty good.

There isn't really a most i'mportant thing to have.
It's recommended that you have:

  • An Anti-Virus
  • A Firewall
  • Anti-Spyware
  • Anti-Malware

1) No you need both an Anti-Virus and Firewall because they both complete different functions.
2) For all around protection for now i would recommend AVG. It is a free all around protection software and it's Free, considering it's free it's a very good all around protection software.

Yeah AVG is really good and if you dont mind spending some money on it it has a complete pack. Im not sure what Kaspersky offers for all around protection but I have heard their antivirus is one of the best.

Yes, it is one of the top 5 in overall protection.
It's also one of the most trusted on this forum.

I would definitely suggest protecting your system with an antivirus, anti-spyware and also firewall. I've had good experience in the past with both AVG and AVAST, which both have free versions of their software available.
