need help

Well, you were never gonna run a decent gpu in it with it only having 360 watts on the 12volt rails. If you had the same issue with it not starting with the old psu then then something is wrong with the motherboard or you have a short somewhere. Might want to try taking the motherboard out of the case and put it on a piece of cardboard and hook it up that way and see if it starts.
OK I'll try the other psu although it did the same thing but could u explain the 360 watt 12 rail thing to me?

Even though its a 550 watt unit, there are 3 voltage rails

3.3 volts
5.0 volts
12.0 volts

Very few devices will use the 3.3 or 5 volt rails on a power supply. Its mostly all on the 12 volt rails. That power supply only has 360 watts set aside for the 2 - 12volt rails that unit has. It has a combined wattage of 275 for the 3.3 and 5.0 rails. So basically that unit is crap. How much did you pay for it? Bet you it was around $30-$35 wasn't it? It may have been a little more due to it being a modular unit.

I doubt a new psu will do anything. The motherboard is most likely shot or as I said, there is a short somewhere. I would build the motherboard ouside of the case to verify.

got it for 20 brand new, so I guess it might not be able to run a gtx 660 then ?

You typically don't want to take this approach when purchasing a power supply.

Sounds like it no longer POSTs, if you swapped to another PSU then it's either CPU/RAM/Mobo/GPU. Do you have an internal PC speaker hooked up? That can isolate it down to CPU/MB.

got it for 20 brand new,

Never skimp on a power supply my friend. They are the backbone of your system. Look at the difference between your psu and this one.

500 watt modular psu with 456 watts on the 12 volt rail. $59.99. Lower wattage psu then yours but much better psu then yours.

A gtx 660 needs a good 430 watt unit such as the cx430. But to be honest unless you already bought the card, I would get a better card as its already 2 generations old.

Nope external speakers

Wat If I got the 660 for 80 bucks ?

You could argue in actuality it's a higher wattage unit. Most garbage low end ones simply stamp a higher number on the label without testing. There have been countless low end units that are 250-300w design and simply stamped a 500w label on the side.

I agree but I was hoping he got a good understanding of the differences between the 2. Total wattage versus wattage on the 12volt rail.

What games you planning on playing?

Battlefield eventually once I upgrade cpu, csgo, skyrim, and a few others

Battlefield 5 minimum video card is the 660 so don't know how well you would be playing it. Would probably start looking for either the gtx 960-970 or R9 380 to be honest.
