My message to anyone who ever used pirated software

I don't count rap as music haha. I'm talking about real music that actually takes talent to produce. Take someone like Eric Clapton for example, he has talent. 50 Cent has none, except getting shot. I won't ever buy one of Clapton's albums, though because I know he gets nothing from it. I would go to one of his shows in a heartbeat thought.

EDIT: WTF is cranking Robocop?

Yea well don't get me wrong there is rap I like but it's more the like NWA, TuPac, Jay Z, Dr. Dre. That stuff was very poetic and had substance. The new stuff is just thrown together to make a buck.

good thread but i suppose it all comes down to what you can get for your work singers know they can sell there work for millions and melons of dollars so they do

if you where a singer wouldn't you?

singers dont. record companies do.

who cares if they deserve it? Does anyone deserve anything over anyone else? NO! Rich people are just like poor people, but with money. If a poor person were to suddenly get rich they would also live an extravagant life style.

Whether they deserve it or not is irrelevant completely. We are talking about piracy here. If the product is good, marketed well, and is very cost efficient then it will sell. The people who never ever pay for stuff aren't going to pay for it anyway. There are some growing number of people that say if they can download cheap DRM free media they would pay for it. That is only theory though because that media does not exist. So, we will not be able to test that until it exists.

So really, a better thread may be a poll stating that if you could readily purchase DRM free, cheap media (music, DVDs, TV shows, etc) would you stop downloading pirated media?

yeah that sounds about right. Who would spend the time an effort to pirate when it's cheap to begin with.

@thermalreactor:

Yea i agree with you bro. I see no reason for souljaboy to be in the game, he is of no value,. G unit the best though :P :gun: :P

To be honest id just be happy that someone likes using my program and they would go that fare to get the program id actually feel honoured. I do see where your coming from though but i dont think everyone is going to stop just because you say so pointless thread in my opinion.
Where I'm coming from, 99% of the people use pirated software including Windows and everything, I have never met someone who doesn't, and it's one of the many reasons I don't want to live here, just to go away somewhere where my effort will be appreciated.

Going open source would mean that I don't want to earn money from making software, but if this will be my job, where from will I earn my living?

But I beg you, stop doing that, stop using pirated software. Think like you was the programmer that spent maybe years of hard working to make it work, he maybe spent a lot of money, and he would like to see that his worked payed off. Pirating his program will make him feel sorry for wasting so much time and money, and he may never bring new improved versions, patches or updates.

Not really, hes still getting paid for being at work, its the company that loses out, they make enough money as it is. Look at AutoCad and other software that schools and company's use. They already make enough off them, trust me I work for a school district. If I find a game or program that's worth it, ill buy it. However for something old or overpriced ill download it. Not to mention I used to play on consoles too, I felt I didn't need to buy Bioshock for my PC if I already paid for it. BTW if you don't own that game(Bioshock), don't pirate it, its a great game and worth the price.

It's very hard to tell you how hard is for me to choose a career for the future. I want to become a programmer, and I'm now in the high school, 3 years away from the university, and these are my last 3 years when I can choose what I want to become. It's very sad to think that I may create very good software, spend a lot of time and money to do it, and I try to sell it to earn my living, and then find it everywhere on the internet for free. If I realize that I'm just wasting my time and money trying to make something useful for people, and all I get is a big hole in my budget, I'm sure I will be very disappointed and I will quit creating software.

That's the life of a programmer, don't be one then. BTW You don't have to make your mind up in High school. Iv got a friend that decided he wanted my make alot of money, so he went for construction management, he then realized he was into computer and networking, well there goes that money. Take a year off or something. Just to put it out there, no matter what you do, there will be some open source software close to what you make. It takes teams and teams of programmers to create large software and games.

This is also available for music, movies... there is a lot of effort in making a single CD with music, trust me.
Making music is supposed to be fun....not a job. If you don't make music to make music and you do it for money, you don't deserve my money.

If you feel like you simply can't stop using pirated software, try changing your operating system to Linux (any distro you want) where most software is free, even open source.
Theres open source for windows, and plenty of it....

I know that most of you are teenagers, so it's your time to do something against piracy.
I beg you, please stop using pirated software.
It wont end, its not just kids, its people like me who love sticking it to the man.

If you don't, you may be sorry later when the programmers will stop creating software, when singers will stop recording CDs because of pirated music, movie makers will stop making movies and so on.

Its not going to end, why your posting this is beyond me. Why the hell would someone pay 60 bux for something when they can get it free? People aren't going to stop making music or programming, some people enjoy it, and do it for fun. Not to mention those singers, and movie makers, there making tons of money at the box office and doing tours.
Its BS, don't run sunshine up peoples behinds. Those people are making plenty of money. They don't need more. So what it hurts CD sales, they still make tons of money on merchandise and tour's.Boo-Hoo im only making 1million instead of 20 million a year(not even accurate, im sure they aren't losing that much.) Not to mention its the record company's man. I hate company's that do almost nothing and get paid for it. IE. Banks, Record company's, ect ect.

Piracy will never end because people know there is little if any chance they would ever get caught big companies like microsoft or adobe are not going to exhaust the time, money, or effort necessary to prosecute some kid in BFE America who scabbed a copy of their software off of a torrent site. Companies are different because they use the pirated software to make money.

I will admit that I have downloaded software before, maybe once or twice, used it for whatever I needed it for then deleted it. Why pay $150 for a program I only wanted to use once anyway? Does that make it right? Probably not, but I was younger at the time and didn't really care about the 'global view' of things.

On the flip side, I've got burned before too. I understand the reasons why software companies obviously can't accept returns, but its BS to me that if I payed for software and it doesn't work right or does not live up to the companies claims that I am stuck with it and cannot sell it or return it!

Case and point 'spore' I was so excited for this game and then when it finally arrived it was the biggest gaming dissapointment since 'ET' for atari. So after one day of barely enjoyable play, I stashed it away never to let it see the light of my hdd again. Therefore, I'm out $50 for software that DID NOT live up to the companies hype. That was the last time I wished I had downloaded a game.

Basically there's no safety net for you as a consumer so why honer the safety net of multi-million dollar companies?
