Motherboard Upgrade from Gigabyte P55M-UD2 Suggestions Needed Please!

My first build I used an Asus board and for some reason, I just don't like this Gigabyte board as well just doesn't seem as stable in general. I'm running an intel i5 [email protected], His 4850 Radeon HD Graphics card, Corsair TX 850 PS, 8 Gigs of Gskill ram and also an Arctic 7 aftermarket CPU cooler. I'm looking to spend between 150 to $175.00 or close to that range for an 1156 style socket board. Thanks for all advice! :)

well gigabyte and asus are the 2 best brands, might not be the mobo that's the problem, but with a new mobo means a new os disk if you used a oem one.

What issues are you having exactly? Did you do a fresh install of windows after changing from the asus to the gigabyte?

I've got a retail upgrade version set of Win 7 Home Premium disks I can use. This board seems very touchy about changing anything in the bios compared to the Asus build. I found that my cpu cooler wasn't tight enough against the processor a couple days ago. I removed it and applied some Artic Silver 5 and tightened it up a lot tighter. I found that when the temps started to hit 90 degrees C. with CoreTemp it now idles between 27-30 C. There's a good chance that could have caused the BSOD a couple times. I'd still like to get a better board though and use this one for another build. Thanks! :)

Overheating would cause it to shut off, not bluescreen.

We can find out why it was bluescreening, do the following.

Download BlueScreenView
No installation required.
Unzip downloaded file and double click on BlueScreenView.exe file to run the program.
When scanning is done, go Edit>Select All.
Go File>Save Selected Items, and save the report as BSOD.txt.
Open BSOD.txt in Notepad, copy all content, and paste it into your next reply.

Mainly instability if I try to OC any and BSOD sometimes right after boot up. I've got all drivers up to date and graphics card seem to run pretty cool 35-38 C. idle The Asus in in another build I was just using it for comparison. Thanks! :)

The bluescreen program will tell us why you were bluescreening. Doesn't have to be drivers, could be memory issues or actually hardware issues. Why don't you run the program so we can find out why its doing it?

If I get another BSOD I'll sure give that a try appreciate it! :good:

You don't need to wait until you get another bluescreen, you can run it now as the dump logs will still be on your system unless you had them deleted by ccleaner or another program or manually.

I used ccleaner yesterday figures lol! but, I'll check for any dumps. I've downloaded the program though.

Not sure yet how to use this program I'll probably have to wait now if I cleaned all the files.

I checked mini dump folder in windows and it's empty but, I know what to do if it BSOD's again and I'll get the dump posted. Thanks very much! :)

Not a problem. Yeah it seems the dump folder was empty as that information is useless. Just post the bluescreen log when it happens again and I'll reply when I can.

Found these in my documents? and moved them to mini dump :)

Your blue screen is caused by the gigabyte raid driver. You have 2 sata chipsets on that board, intel and J micron(gigabyte). Please download this driver to see if the blue screens stop.

http://download.gigabyte.us/FileList/Driver/motherboard_driver_sata_gb_sata2raid_5series.exe

Do you have anything attached to the gigabyte sata controller?

I have one double socket that's a different color and according to my manual that's to configure Raid and I believe it says Gsata next to it. I'm using the other sata connectors I do, have the dvd burner connected to a separete socket maybe I should move it with the others I'll check the board label. I'll download that and see what happens. Thanks! :) I have two drives, on the other one is a back up image system file but not running any Raid.

I've installed the drivers with no problems maybe that did the trick, I sure do appreciate your help! :good:
