what does this ms means when they have it in monitors spec? which one is good?

I need to get an lcd monitor which one should I get? my max budget is 500USD.

You can get as low as 2ms. The lower the ms, the better. I think it's the responce time, but im not positive. I know that the lower the number, the better though. Look for a 2ms.

Anything under 8ms is good for gaming. I have an 8ms LCD and I cant see ghosting unless I actually try. If your a "hardcore" gamer, I would look for a monitor with 6ms or shorter response time.

i use a 12ms monito atm. (at least i think it is) and even when i played UT, i didnt see it ghost.. so 8ms and 2ms are fine i guess :)

The response time 8ms,2ms etc. is a measurement of how fast an individual pixel changes from "grey to grey" or "black to white" etc. Many manufacturers have a different method of measurement. usually the lowest would be best however you should pay attention also to things like "contrast ratio" many monitors being around 500:1 but go much higher. The higher the number for contrast ratio the better and a 1000:1 contrast is very noticeable over say a 500:1. If a monitor has a 2ms response but a contrast ratio of 500:1 (which many do) I would then consider an 8ms with a contrast of 1000:1... 8 ms and lower should be fine for gaming however it can change quickly from manufacturer to manufacturer.

in that case this one is 612.99 but it owns I tell ya. If your going to speed 500 on a lcd monitor add 112.99 to your budget and get this. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16824002320

I don't know anything about that particular screen, However, I really like the very high contrast ratio. The specs overall are decent, I wonder how it actually performs.

Edit:

Yes I'm sure your CRT is fine, This is a wide screen LCD which is just lovely :). Many people like LCD's because they are stylish and have a very small footprint. I have 2 LCDs on my computer and they take up very little room compared to a CRT. Lets not have this turn into a LCD VS CRT debate though as they both have strengths and weakness's. There are just many reasons to want either. Enjoy your CRT.
