modded psp

i've decided to buy a used psp.
how do i make sure i don't get a modded one? what do i look for?

thnx

What do you mean modded?

You mean does it have custom firmware on? If so, it doesn't matter, if you want to keep it "legit", you can use the update that comes with any UMD, and then just update to the latest using the system update. Sony don't ban people who use custom firmware, you can still play their games and movies, you can still play the games online, the only thing that changes is you can use homebrew, and you can't use the PSN store

I made a modded PSP.

Basically, If it says Custom Firmware then its modded. Custom firmware is a (hacked) OS which allows you do do whatever you want with the PSP. I know that the Slim 3000 PSP are harder to mod so you might try that. The FAT 1000 PSPs are the ones that are usually modded. FAT and Slim is just basically how old it is.

It doesn't matter what type of PSP you have, slim or fat, it depends entirely upon the current firmware version, and in some cases the motherboard model. Probably best to leave the ins and outs of it at that, for the sake of staying on topic, and for the sake of not entering into a bit of a sketchy area

No not exactly. I know that the PSP 3000 has software that blocks teh custom firmware so it can't be modded.

maybe they don't get banned or whatever; still i wont condone such practices, just out of principle. and i don't want to inherit someone else's mess.
i just want to play one game really.
and i would prefer a 3k simply because it's newer.

Nope, it's been cracked. Along with PSP Go. But the funny thing is, people have managed to play pirated games with official firmware. lol
Imagine the more stable firmware to install a custom firmware or devhook or play homebrew was 1.5 rather than being 1.0.Even though 1.0 was able to play homebrew but 1.5 was better, sony peolpe actually revised the firmware and made something even better but not for them . HAHAHA

As Declan already said doesn't matter if its a custom firmware or not.You can always install the Official Firmware by downloading the pbp from any site and then putting it in the update folder.
Custom Firmware does not harm your PSP in any way.
Check the battery life before buying and also check whether it was modded physically or not.
I put leds in the trigger of my psp.(Looked Awesome)
But sadly after that it fell in a swimming pool, even then it worked fine for 3 months after that my motherboard got screwed up.
