I'm currenlty trying to shave off a few dollars here and there so I can afford to safly purchase my new computer without running the risk of being unable to eat while in college ^^

I was wondering if anyone could give me a good comparsion between these two boards and the pros and cons, I can't seem to find a reason to buy the regular DS3 over the S3.

Like I said, I can't seem to find a good reason to buy the more expensive boards. Their spec sheets look almost exactly alike. Is one more stable or well supported, etc.?

Thanks alot!

Having to post this should be an indicater, but what does the difference imply? What would shelling out 30-40 extra bucks gain me by going with the DS3?

Well, the capacitors are of better quality on the DS3, so they will last longer than those on the S3.

Also, don't quote me on this, but I think it may help with overclocking, although I'm not sure... :)

indeed.. if you're not planning n overclocking, pick the S3, they are both good quality boards anyway ;)

Maybe by a slight bit, but solid capacitors are usually only found on server boards. I doubt it'll shorten the mobo's life any noticable amount (that is unless a capacitor blows of course), and I don't think it'll increase OC potential. DFI did the same thing with their Lanparty SLI-DR Venus board, and there wasn't a huge difference or anything. So I think they're more of a novelty on mainstream boards.

But yeah, your right, the capacitors are of better quality.

Thanks!

Thanks for the info guys. My orginal budget was $700, after adding it all up on my newegg account it was pushing 950, so I gotta shave some off here and there. I am usually one to dish out a few extra bucks for the extra quality but 40 dollars is a big difference at this point. Thanks agian!

sorry is this the board that has all the hype for overclocking the core2's. damn if it is that sucks for me. i wasnt thinking about overclocking my rig at all when i bought it. i found the 2 graphics cards for really cheap <$100 so i wanted those, so i wanted an sli board. now that i got into a little dabble of overclocking and reached my boards max now im anxious to see if i could go higher. damnnnn i almost wish i had gotten the ds3 and then just splurged for a 7900...oh well. she still runs great as she is...shit she runs AMAZING compared to my last rig...i guess im content lol...sorry just had oc fever there for a second

Hehe, yeah, the Gigabyte GA-965P-(D)S3 boards offer big overclocks for Allendales/Conroes (I hit 3.56 Ghz [although unstable]).
