Longhorn Gets a Name: Windows Vista

I heard that Windows: "Blue Screen Revisited" was in the running...

LOL, they'd have to go with "Blue Screen Revolutions" in order to get a decent operating system ;)

Anyway, it doesn't matter what they call it, it'll still ship with somewhere between 4,000 and 15,000 know bugs... BOOOOOO!!!!!

One think people would become tired of criticizing MS, at some point.

I really liked the name Longhorn. It's a shame that they decided upon the name "vista", particularly considering that "vista" is one of my least favorite words. Ah well, time to do what I'm best at doing; ignoring reality and living in my own world...Wow, I just can't wait until Longhorn comes out :P

I know, that in Latvian, the word "Vista" means "Chicken".

He he he, thier gonna have a hard job sellin "Windows Chicken" in Latvia then arent they. Time for the marketing department to do their magic.

I myself dont see the problem with "vista", what does the name govern anyway. Im sure it will be brilliant, bar the ocuple of months at the beginning where it WILL be loaded with bugs and fixes/patches will be force fed to us all.

I used to live really closed to "Vista Ridge Mall", it's where i took driver's ed and where i met my girlfriend for thef first time. Windows Vista will always remind me of thta lol.

And no, i never get tired of critisizing Windows, especially since it costs so much and delivers so little :\

With Texas being my favorite state, Longhorn was definetly a selling point for me, no matter how shallow that is. It's beyond me why Windows would suddenly change the name of things...

Haha

Well the name change was expected. Longhorn is simply a "codename" meaning a name while it is in the process of development. As to Windows, I have to disagree and say that the price justifies what you get. I doubt you get the same amount of flexibilty and ease of administration (hardware etc.) in Linux. Also consider the usability of Linux for a normal user.....basically non-existent aside from being able to use the Net and such basics.

they are project names...or w/e the term is. while it's in development or beta it has a project name, then for the final release it get a new fresh name. it's been like this for ever OS i thought, even if its not made my M$.

Indeed it has, longhorn is the code name for windows longhorn, just like windows XP was called Whistler before it was released. Similarly Windows ME has the codename "Tiger" before it was released. Windows Tiger became windows ME, windows whistler became windows XP and now windows longhorn is to become Windows Vista

"Windows Vista" (to me at least), has the linguistic fluidity of a deep-voiced german with a sore throat who just got their tongue pierced :P. I don't like the name at all, but, I suppose that Microsoft probably spent thousands of dollars on customer surveys and the sort, and most people liked "Vista" best :(....Then again, a lot of people voted for Bush...

they should come up with...i dunno the word...scary? fierce? forboding? i can t think of it...names.

like, "Windows Kick You In The Ass!" or something. Windows WarHammer, Windows IronFist...i dunno.

that probably only appeals to mel ol.

everyone always gets down on microsoft for its bugs but in program development there will always be bugs just after your product goes out the door, and with an operating system such as windows where you can do so much with it would be impossible to test every thing with it, because new applications are constantly being made for it, and because it is constantly being used in different ways. at least they divised a easy way to deliver updates.

and a clever way, i like how it scans your computer and installs them all at once. Instead of going to the microsoft download center and manually downloading and installing all the updates one at a time. I will wait at least a month before buying it so the price comes down and any major bugs will get worked out... or i might just stick with xp

yeah i dont think ill be able to afford it right away either. oh well from what i saw the GUI looks alot like XP. wouldnt mind getting new applications tho..
