My router doesnt work well, and need to get a new one......I have a website and my router isnt sending or receiving packets well. I dont really know much about routers. Would one of these be good enough for me. I'm not a gamer, but do a lot of browsing with 20 tabs open at a time, and have 3 computers in the house that are used very often.

Thank you very much for your time!!

Cisco/Linksys is a much better product. They have set all kinds of standards that many other companies follow and mimic.

One problem here. The Cisco/Linksys router you are looking at (from the posted link) doesn't support the 'N' IEEE standard. The Belkin does. You are probably going to want this feature. It has been in effect for a while and is the current fastest protocol for consumers. If you can get a Cisco/Linksys router with the 'N' standard, that is the way to go. The E'A' series from Cisco is designed for the future. If you can afford it, I recommend the 'EA4500'. Do some research on it. It may be overkill, but this router is among the highest recommended and you won' need to replace it for many years.

Edit to add more info:
The Dual-Band feature will allow you to use the 2.4MHz band, which you currently are, and also the 5MHz band, which is less common and will have less interference. The Linksys you are looking at isn't dual-band.

Below is a link to better explain the IEEE standards.

Here is the link for the EA4500

ok.....so to keep it simple, should i just get the belkin then? Would rather not be spied on. I can get it for 40 dollars with free shipping from newegg. My computer skills are above average, but they are way below average on a forum like this. My main concern is to primarily have a router that gives me no problems when editing my website owlhousepottery.com It is a basic wordpress.org site with the woocommerce plugin. I also download, and upload video, search the web, etc......so i dont think im stressing my network very hard. Thanks again for your time and effort......much appreciated.

All these articles are 4-5 months old. That is a lifetime in the world of technology. It was bad business to write the policy they did, but it has been undone. You no longer are required to use CLOUD BASED ROUTING. Here is a quote from an article you posted...

"Wingo just announced that Connect Cloud is no longer required to manage the routers nor will Cisco arbitrarily disconnect Connect Cloud users from the service based on how they are using the Internet. Cisco is being responsive to the complaints."

A step in the right direction. I have had nothing but fantastic experiences with the EA4500. Add in the "built in FTP server", and Media Server, plus other goodies and options, makes this a great buy.

Everyone has their opinions, and we each have dealt with the good and the bad. I respect that.

So Donald.....I picked up the Belkin from Walmart for 70 bucks.....im going to return it cause i can get it from newegg for 40 and the linksys for 50. can you please explain why it would be better to get a more expensive one? Until a few days ago, i thought all routers were the same. Thanks!

If you were willing to spend $70 for that Belkin, then return it and get the Asus I linked above.

Well, as I mentioned earlier, there are some options this router has that intrigues me. The router alone has allowed me an FTP site, and amazing media streaming that I thought was incredible. I have dealt with mostly Belkin and Netgear throughout my experiences, and was satisfied. I then found a great deal on a Linksys router and was pleased for a long time. I had no issues what-so-ever. So, when the EA series came out, I did some research, liked what I found, and decided to invest in what I have known to become a solid product. But, it works both ways. Bad experiences will lead to conversations such as these.

I have dealt with enough routers to form an opinion of my own, and have found a good product that does everything I require, and more. There are Netgear fans out there, Belkin fans, and so on. To each their own. This thread is greatly opinion based, and should be taken with a grain of.....salt. It is up to the consumer to know what he wants and what he is willing to pay for it.

Thanks

so, what im getting from this is a router isnt such a big deal since im an intermediate user.....i can get the belkin for 40 bucks, and that should be fine, and i can always upgrade later....all my money goes into my pottery business, and even 10 dollars is a lot for me to invest.

Amazing. I hear all over creation that Cisco has had this policy, but I didn't hear reports that they rescinded it with the same frequency.
Sorry about that, everyone.
