Yet to think about whether I’d need water cooling for some of the components when I OC.

What’s your thoughts on my choices? Is it a beast of a machine like i'm hoping it to be?! :D

i would rather get the E8400 cpu. much cheaper but can kick a lot of the quad cores asses. especially after you OC.

for the graphics card...you can get a 9800GTX+ for the same amount of money and i believe even get FarCry 2 for free and here it is:

or there is one you can get COD4:

for the HD you can get a seagate 500GB with 7200.11 tech for 69 bucks.

So this dual core is better for gaming? My order site is selling that processor for $44 cheaper.

Thing is a multitask with all sorts of programs open at once and i want this computer to be able to handle a game while running 2-4 other applications at the same time without even struggling, eg. game + music/movie + internet browsing + instant messaging, this is what i currently do on this crap comp and i'm wondering when some of the insides will kark it :P

Not true in my case. The 9800GT is $191 while the 9800GTX+ is $298, which is quite a difference. :P Though would this be a better choice of card? I'm not understanding some of the specs, such as the "dual slot" and "single slot".

for the HD you can get a seagate 500GB with 7200.11 tech for 69 bucks.

I'm told that Western Digital is the most reliable of the hard drives.

Just a future heads up. I live in australia and newegg does not ship to australia :/

the ability to run multiple programs at once also is heavily done by your ram since your ram stores the programs there for fast access. if no room then it is page filed and that is when you see time in between you choosing what program to open again. and you have plenty of ram so i think you should be able to run the 2-4 apps at once.

for the GTX and GTX+ i believe they are just overclocked version of the GT but no exactly sure.

yes western digital is much more reliable but that faster speed is very nice to think about. thats mainly the reason why i i might get the seagate HD.

living in australia eh. well that just kills all of the links i posted earlier. lol

So it would be wiser to go with the E8400 then? i'll just make sure i'll get the good OCZ ram :D

Ah ok. So i guess it'd be fine going with the cheaper 9800GT and just overclock it myself :)

Hmmm i've looked at the official WD site and i liked the look of the 500G 32mb cache, only thing is one of my suppliers doesn't give enough information about the HD and my other one doesn't seem to have the 32mb cache.

16mb cache vs. 32mb cache HDs?

Yeah pretty much :D

well it is your choice. in the future there will be programs that utilize multicores much better so it might be a good investment to buy it now then later....

i would get the GTX since i read somewhere that after overclocking the GT it comes close to the performance of the GTX.

well i mostly talking about the 7200.11 tech that Seagate has. it really makes the HD faster.

I just built one last month for about the same prices and I did this

Intel Q9550
Nvidia GTX 260
Cooler Master HAF case (you'll like it)
4Gi Corsair 1033 RAM
Asus P5N motherobard
900w Antec PSU
22" Samsung LCD

After rebates and instant savings form newegg it was around 1200 USD

Ok here's a quick update of my gaming rig, tell me your thoughts :)

EDIT: also what order should these parts be purchased in? I am told that pretty much all these prices will stablize at the price they are now for the next few months. I should have enough money for this by, at latest, the end of february :)

I'd lay off some of the case fans to be honest, maybe 2x high performance, but i'd seriously suggest something quieter, your rig will be deafening.
A 4850 is agood buy because of their $180 USD price, the one you have is too much, if you're willing to spend that much, get this: (1gig of vram is overkill)
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814102797
$250 and on average 5-10% faster than a gtx 260, about 15-20% faster than a 4850. also is dual slot, so your graphics card heat (which is alot) will be vented outside.

Ah thanks for catch the VGA slip up there :)

I'll just cancel the invoice request for that and go for one of the 512mb avaliable.

Deafening? Ahhhh :( Well i was planing on having 4 for the side window and 2 for the top.

I guess instead of the graphics card i'll order my case instead

GUYS, this dude lives in Australia... drop linking newegg already, they don't ship to Teh Oz.

Also, jamwich, you'd be MUCH better off with the 1GB version paired up with the 24" monitor. At higher resolutions the 1GB version of the 4870 sometimes performs nearly twice as good as the 512MB version, and playing at lower resolutions with a 24-inch monitor would be insane.

Thanks for repeating that info hackapelite ;)

Well my dad went thingy at me when he found out i ordered my monitor and he said that he could have gotten in cheaper. That might be true, but this is quite a deal i've gotten here. (Dad owns a large rural phone/computer/wiring company. And me not thinking to ask him if i could order through him)

*slaps self because of his stupidity*

So on that note i'll hopefully get all the parts cheaper than expected :D :P

Hi mate dont think about getting the Gigabyte one from MSY, because down King Williams theres another store called Allneeds and they are selling a HIS ICEQ4 4850 1GB for 275 a little cheaper but 5 dollars aint much but these cards are great esepcially their better at cooling than stock ones if you dont want to fan fix your GB 4850. I myself am gonna pick this card up this saturday or so. Heres a link to the store
