Is Windows 7 RC - the same as releasing a full retail version of Win 7

I know there's a beta version that was downloadable for a period of time - and that May 5th is the circulating date that Microsoft will be making Windows 7 RC available publicly.

My question is definion - terminology
- Is the Windows RC - basically Windows 7 Retail version?
- or is it somewhere in between a beta / and Windows 7 retail widely available for purchase?

Thanks

It's a version that they think will work for release. Basically everything is supposed to be ready to go and if no major errors surface it will be RTM.

RC = Release Candidate

As Cromewell said, it's a release they think is good enough to release as the public Retail version.

I've got the RC on my lappy, it works great. The RC for an OS is usually free from any major bugs and they are just tweaking little thing here and there until the final release and since we are talking about microsoft here, after they release it we will have an SP1 in about a year or so from release.

Will it expire after a certain point in time. LIke when it's finally released? Or can I download a RC and use it indefinitely?

It does expire June 2010. And, if you want, you can keep setting your system clock back and keep using it as long as you want :D but who has that much time on there hands...

I think Microsoft is smarter than that now. That used to work on older versions of Windows, but I'm sure they've got that fixed. Setting the date and clock back most likely won't work.

Actually, someone changed the clock to June 2010 and it said it was invalid, then they switched back. Still worked.
But now that I realize it, I see your point. Sure it happens now but it's because it is still in its beta cycle.
But time will tell, and someone should do it at that time just for the hell of it to see if it works.

Is Main Memory = RAM?

Yes.

How do I know support for DX9 Graphics with 128MB fo memory ( for the Aero interface )?

I'm not sure if my PC covers that or not?

If you're running Vista, type dxdiag into the search box. If you're running XP, click start > run and type dxdiag. What's the model name and number of your PC?
