Is this "gaming Pc" any good? (For my son for christmas) Cheers

Hello, I have recently decided to get my son a new computer for christmas, But i don't really have a clue what to get him. He always playing shooting games that have very good picture quality, ( i think its called graphics) anyway i saw this and it said it was a gaming pc but i haven't a clue if its anygood or not, Could any of you tell me if this is computer is fit for gaming or point me in another direction!

Check the PSU that comes with the case. What are the amps? Also, you might want to just get 1 gig of RAM and upgrade to a GTX, but whatever.
 
Where are you purchasing the PC from? If its a online website maybe you can give us the link and we can find a better one for the same value.
 
This guy looks like he isn't a computer whiz like we are so we shouldn't scare him by telling him 2 gigs of RAM and a 7800GTX is better (no offence). I agree with P11, tell us your manufacturer and we can probably get you a better buy.
 
Its very good for the price. The graphics card alone costs about £240 in the UK. Dont suppose you know what PSU it is?

Regardless of what we think, that computer will suit your son very well for about 2-3 years of gaming at fairly good quality, and about 5 years for typical system usage.

that's most likely a amd64 3500+, very good for gaming

It's a nice graphics card, a computer's performance with games and image qualities in games is mainly determined by this and the cpu, the item above this.

Make sure the powersupply has enough power to feed the system. The "watt" doesn't really mean anything, to fully understand this, you should read PSU101, very useful.

You'll have to give us more details, what kind of interface? ATA133? SATA? Just copy everything from the site over. If it's SATA then you'll get better load times.

Seems a bit expensive, but again i dont know how much items cost in UK.

Wow thats an awesome gift. Whats your budget? You could probably save money some money and still get him a good gaming computer.
 
By "17" TFT Monitor With Speakers" I assume the speakers are on the monitor. Get better speakers, 5.1 surround sound 500 w, theres a good one by Logitec, i don't know what its called but im sure there is someone here who does. Just buy them seperatley, they will work with the pc, as long as you have a 5.1 surround sound card or integrated sound.

Or he can keep those and save money because you don't need a 5.1 surround sound system with perfect sound to play games.

Fear demands graphics more than it does RAM. UT2004 is more of a RAM demanding game, older ones like that usually suck RAM, new ones suck Gfx.

And RAM, and motherboard, and Hard Drive, and PSU.

Needless to say you would save a ton of money (~1000$) if you bought all the parts yourself and just took the time to put it all together.

Not everybody has the knowledge or time to build it themselves, especially in the run up to christmas.

Needless to say, your son will be happy :)

Once agian cheers, oh its says sata or something for the 160 gb hard drive, i don't a clue how to put a pc together and uh yes it's the amd64 3700 !

Would you like to adopt me? I'm 19 years old but I'll still be your son >.>. Anyway thats a very good PC. You said you weren't very computer savvy so its best to just buy it prebuilt. It costs abit more, but its better than dealing with parts if you don't know how. With 2 gig and and the 7800 GTX, he won't need to upgrade that card for 2-4 years. He'll play every game on the market right now on high settings. Make sure you put a lock on the case though. With a PC like that I'd cut from junior high/high school to play >.>
