Seagate Barracuda 1 TB Internal hard drive - 600 MBps - 7200 rpm

It is 60 dollars (US)

I need a reliable hard drive that is right around that 50-60 dollar range to replace my 3 hard drives.

One is 127gb, one is 68.3gb, and one is 37.2gb. < :D

Any input is helpful.

Well that a fair thought but what happens when you transfer all your stuff to the 1TB drive and all of a sudden it rolls over and dies?

I don't know, I'm going to keep everything on the smaller hds and also copy everything over, but I do plan on getting a backup later but as I've said in other threads Its not my money, it's my parents money and my mom said that we can get a new hard drive (since were down to around 1gb of space on our C drive. So I'm trying to save as much money as possible while still keeping pretty good relability and space.

XP, but I'm hoping to go up to 7 soon. I'm afraid that alot of my older programs might not work though, so I'm trying to get my old laptop fixed to put them on. So as soon as I get that fixed I plan on upgrading it.

I'm running a 3.4ghz processor and 4gigs of ram so thats fine, that only problem I see is I don't know how to tell if its a 32 or 64 bit computer.

Also, could I get vista then upgrade?

That's what backups are for. Having 3 drives gives you 3X as much chance of a drive failure as 1 drive.

That is a possible way to go but requires that you have to buy 2 OSes. You can legally upgrade from Win XP to Win 7, it's just that there isn't a path to do an in-place upgrade so you will need to do a clean install of Win 7 and re-install all of your apps. As long as you have all your install CDs and such it isn't a big deal.

Yeah, I have like 4% of the install disks that I know where they are, and many of them broke, so there's no chance of that happening. Can I just install Windows 7 on the new drive THEN copy everything over to it, and use XP mode for all of the other programs that aren't compatible with 7?

Well make sure the pc has the requirements to run 7 Dez.

Bear in mind that you can't do an upgrade from XP to 7, it will have to be a clean install so the price of 7 has to be taken into consideration too.

You can upgrade from Windows XP to Windows 7. If you're presently running XP Professional, you can upgrade directly to Windows 7 Professional, or Ultimate. You can not upgrade from Windows XP Home Edition, to Windows 7.

Edit: I will eat my words right now, since I just second guessed myself after I posted. It will allow the upgrade, but will force a clean installation. Kinda defeats the purpose of the upgrade.
