Intel has recently adjusted its product strategy and will postpone three 45nm quad-core CPUs that were originally scheduled to launch in January next year, according to sources at motherboard makers.

Intel has already notified its partners that it will push back the launch of the three CPUs to February or March next year, depending on AMD's schedule for triple-core and the upcoming Phenom CPUs.

Launching the CPUs now will not benefit Intel much in its battle with AMD, while they could cause damage to Intel's 65nm quad-core CPUs, therefore the company has decided it is in no rush to release new products until AMD is able to present more of a threat.

The three CPUs that Intel plans to delay are the Core 2 Quad Q9300, Q9450 and Q9550, added the sources.

Intel commented that its launch of 45nm quad-core CPUs for desktops is on track for first quarter 2008, but declined to disclose a specific time-frame.

hmmm

C'mon AMD, get your act together! :D

yeah cummon AMD,why the hell are AMD releasing triple core cpus when Intel have Quads and AMD also have Quads themselves?

its rather pointless imo,People will just go for the Quad core :D

This is what people have been talking about in the past as well, if AMD doesn't get their act together then Intel sees no real benefit from pushing newer technology as quickly. I was hoping to get one of those as well :(

Well I have heard that AMD is dropping the Phenom name of the Dual cores to Athlon as a buget processor with no L3 and are going to use there tri core Phenom to compete with Intel Dual core.

I dont know if you guys read this article.

Toms's: Were you surprised by the performance figures of the new Phenom processor?

J. Polster: No. I was surprised by its mainstream performance. We offer a strong and solid platform, which we have been able to realize as a result of our acquisition of ATI. I will admit that we're currently not quite at the top in the high-end market.

Toms's: What does the new strategy for desktop CPUs look like? Will AMD be concentrating on the lower- and-middle price segment, in effect ceding the high-end market to the competition?

J. Polster: We are concentrating on markets where we can achieve large volumes. And that happens to be the mass market, where we can cater to the individual segments. We never intended to start any kind of x-core war.

Toms's: In several online stores, the less expensive AMD Phenom is outselling comparable CPUs the competition offers. Would you say the Phenom is enjoying a good reception in the market?

J. Polster: Yes, Phenom is very well received. We are continuing our strategy of being a little more affordable than the competition. With the Phenom CPU, we are offering products at a very attractive price.

Well the ebay thing is really stressing me out. There's nothing wrong with it, I just want something else, and I don't want to discuss it right now.

If someone wants to help me figure out what to do in my post above, I'd be more than happy.

[/pissed spree]

yeah i've been waiting for this processor for a long time. and now it's longer. i'm considering just getting a q6600.

You'd be better off selling the parts individually on eBay instead of the whole desktop, as theres a much greater risk of something getting damaged if you ship the whole computer.

Lol and tux hijacks another thread complaining about how he cant sell his comp (for way to much). But sounds like you may have gotten worked out. Good :P

@Pumaking, is it possible to unlock the 4th core?
