hi guys

i bought a intel Q6600 Quad 2.4mhz cpu and then download a "core temp" program

all the core are running between 33 to 42 temp when i use diffent application
and going on the internet to browse

my question is this to HOT or is this normal i am not into over clocking yet
but would i need new heatsink or am i ok this this big stock heatsink and fan i got

thanks

This is normal for stock cooler for aftermarket cooling it is rather high.

@ 3.2ghz with a 1.325v vcore and @ 1.356v I run 30-26-22-25 idle with a Xigmatek S1283 cooler and @ 1.325v with stock cooling @ 2.4ghz it would get as warm as 60c on my coolest core on full load it would idle around 35-40c though. It all depends on the chip though.

So you are fine but please beware that I would worry if it passes 65c when all 4 cores are in use. This is a indication you need better cooling. My "safety" temp is 60c which @ 3.2ghz I usually sit at 55-55-50-50 on full load.

Hope this helps.

socket 775 core 2 quads has a max temp in the 80c range. 60-65 will not hurt the chip at all.

But you do need a diff cooler if you want it to run cooler. I have same heatsink mentioned above on my q9450 OC 3.6 and i idle at 35-41 max at 62c.

thank you for your response

yes at them moment it is 33c-33c-32c-33c

so what kind cpu cooler would you recommend ?
i have about 90mm height between base of cpu on the motherboard and
power supply on top

thank you

Depends on your case.

I love my Xigmatek S1283 its a 120mm cooler. I don't like the 90mm cooling solutions.

If you have a smaller case Zalman 9700 I BELIEVE will work (check the specs/reviews on newegg)
