I've recently been having issues with my computer and I really am a novice at troubleshooting and fixing problems like this. I've been redirected many times to the wrong website and have had the anti virus software diabled. Icons have also shown up on the desktop. Any help you can provide would be greatly appreciated. Please start by running Malwarebytes.

How to run a scan with Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware

Download Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware from Here , Here or Here

Double Click mbam-setup.exe to install the application.
  • Make sure a checkmark is placed next to Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware, then click Finish.
  • If an update is found, it will download and install the latest version.
  • Once the program has loaded, select "Perform Full Scan", then click Scan.
  • The scan may take some time to finish,so please be patient.
  • When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results.
  • Make sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected.
  • When disinfection is completed, a log will open in Notepad and you may be prompted to Restart. (See Note)
  • The log is automatically saved by MBAM and can be viewed by clicking the Logs tab in MBAM.
Note:
If MBAM encounters a file that is difficult to remove, you will be presented with 1 of 2 prompts.
Click OK to either and let MBAM proceed with the disinfection process.
If asked to restart the computer, please do so immediately.

After the scan please post a fresh hijackthis log, so I will need both logs when you come back to post.
 
sucessful MBAM and updated HijackThis

Ok. I was able to run MBAM but had to renam the exe file name as it would not run (got that from another site). The MBAM scan was successful and I removed 7 things. Here is the updated HijackThis :

Since you have a rootkit infection lets run combofix and see what it finds.

Download and Run ComboFix
If you already have Combofix, please delete this copy and download it again as it's being updated regularly.
Note: Do not mouseclick combofix's window whilst it's running. That may cause it to stall

Combofix should never take more that 20 minutes including the reboot if malware is detected.
If it does, open Task Manager then Processes tab (press ctrl, alt and del at the same time) and end any processes of findstr, find, sed or swreg, then combofix should continue.
If that happened we want to know, and also what process you had to end.

In your next reply please post:
  • The ComboFix log
  • A fresh HiJackThis log
  • An update on how your computer is running

Also, you need to update the Malwarebytes database. Do this by opening malwarebytes, click on the update tab, click on check for updates. Keep doing this until it says you have the latest version. Then you need to rescan using malwarebytes. But first go ahead and run combofix and post the log that it displays at the end back here.

Then click on fix checked at the bottom. You are running an older version of adobe reader that may have vulnerabilities. Please go into add/remove programs and uninstall acrobat 7.0 then go here and download and install the latest version.

I did delete the four from the HijackThis scan and uninstalled the Adobe Reader. It was version 7.05 and 9.0 is available. I didn't download it as I got the message that Adobe DLM activeX control was required to be downloaded as well. Do you see any issue with this?

The Norton Antivirus version is 8.1.0.825 I don't think this is the latest as I've had it for quite awhile. Do you recommend upgrading?

I ran another MBAM scan and it came up clean. I did however get a notification from Norton of the following:

I highly recommend uninstalling nortons using their removal tool and downloading a free virus program such as AVG, AVIRA, or AVAST. Here is nortons removal tool.

Yes, you have to let adobe dlm active x to run to install the newest version so there is no problem there.

You can delete that whole Qoobox folder. That folder was created when you ran combofix. In fact do this, click on start, click on run and type "combofix /u" (note the space between x and /, has to be there) in the run box and click ok. This will uninstall combofix and remove any folders created by combofix.
