I have a ViewSonic A70. It's a 17" CTR from the late 90's. It's time to get a new one

You mean Circuit "ripoff" City don't you? The only time I ever go into one of those is when some office supply is out or doesn't carry something needed typical of Walmarts in that sense often seeing poor restocking on sold out items.

Love LG brand, the color is cool. I haven't try Viewsonic, cause the price is higher.
Maybe Widescreen will be great for multimedia performance.

When price shopping regardless of brand you may notice that wide screen models seem to always see the lower price tags on them over the standard displays. While newegg saw about $270- for a 19" standard I walked into a sale on a 19" widescreen model at $229.95 with a $40 mail in rebate. Walked away with a new lcd with no shipping attached there.

Case in point here's two Asus 19" models seeing a 2ms response time. The standard sees 800:1 1280x1024. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16824236013

Another 19" widescreen model seeing 850:1 1440x900 with a 5ms response obviously going to be a little less sees $199.99 at http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16824236029

Widescreen models are desired for widescreen viewing of dvds, having two windows open for easier viewing, and other things that way. Auto racing games or wide screen action like one army against another in 1st shooter games also.

I order from Newegg, but for my monitor I am going to buy it in a store for the ease of returning in case of an issue, for example DEAD PIXELS!!!

And I never left. I just spent a lot of money.

And I am still eying the LG L226WTY or the L227WTG.. whatever it's called it's so confusing what the name of it is. I saw a review saying it had a bad reflection back at you at slight angles

The only thing that will cast a reflection off of the 19" Viewsonic model here is a desktop that sits on the desk. But that's something to expect with any bright light source close to any screen.

If buying in a retail store then you have another option of seeing how they look when surrounded by florescent lights from above provided the display models are turned on. As I mentioned earlier I just happened to spot the Viewsonic while in an office supply for another reason and saw the taller base stand over most. That helps!

Yes, the LG is what you want. If you shop locally at Best Buy, they got a new line of LG monitors in recently: http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?skuId=8739092&type=product&id=1201913867402

These monitors, like LG's last line, are some of the few with a real 2ms response time.

Please take a look at the Viewsonic PC linked to. Note that the "2ms response time" has (GTG), or Grey-to-Grey next to it. In other words, it's a lie. There are no Viewsonic monitors with 2ms response times. Response time is not a regulated measurement and thus can be abused by manufacturers who choose to do so, and one of those manufacturers is Viewsonic.

PC eye has proven that he's unable or unwilling to comprehend this.

So this is the one to get? I'll bookmark it then.

Buying monitors is a big headache. And it's not getting any better, as I'm possibly 3 months away from buying it. What are the odds a new monitor comes out in that time?

I don't know about other brands, but there won't be any new LG monitors since the new line was just released in the past month.

You never know. You'll simply have to wait until you are ready to buy and see what models are available. I was ready to order one and spotted a better substitute when simply passing through the section of lcds while in a store. :D

Before having my 22" LG Widescreen I had a 16" CRT Cicero monitor, so I know where you're coming from. :P

I love my LG, the contrast ratip is great, the refresh is 2ms, HDMI interface and the guarantee is 3 years (they replace your old one with a new one).

Anyways, I am sold to LG for now. They offer great price/quality ratio and I like their designs.

from what i am reading 22" is the way to go. are the 24" that bad? how is this one the specs look great and yet everyone says stay away from LG's > 22" why is that? http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?skuId=8739378&type=product&id=1201913868031

22 is too small for my liking :D

What monitor did you get that has HDMI? It must be 24 or higher.

Who's everyone? If you're referring to Best Buy reviewers, they're ignorant. Nothing on Best Buy's website should be taken seriously. Nothing.

I imagine they're turned off by the 5ms response time.

I don't know, I've never used such a large monitor. I won't until smaller ones are no longer available. I'd have a 17" if major lines still included them.

edit: Another possibility is that 24" monitors from other brands have more inputs than just analog and DVI, and that one appears not to, according to Best Buy's specs.

Best Buy also claims one of its Acer desktops has an FSB of 2000GHz, so yeah. Again, I haven't seen these new LG monitors in person.

For a larger screen model the 22" ones are seeing far better prices over what is seen on 24" models. You may want to look at that when making the final decision. Simply moving up from a 17" to 19" wide screen model worked out well here.
